The R9 280X averages 51fps in Tomb Raider at 1920x1200 while the GTX 770 was slightly slower with 50fps. The MSI R9 280X Gaming was the slowest of the factory overclocked R9 280X cards with 52fps, on par with the HD 7970 GHz Edition. The HIS R9 280X iPower IceQ X² Turbo was faster with 54fps, while the Sapphire Vapor-X Tri-X OC R9 280X, Asus R9 280X DirectCU II TOP and Gigabyte R9 280X WindForce 3X OC averaged between 55 and 56fps.
Tomb Raider is also very playable with the R9 280X at 1920x1200 using maximum quality settings, with the standard card averaging 54fps. The MSI R9 280X Gaming couldn’t improve on those results but the HIS R9 280X iPower IceQ X² Turbo delivered 55fps and the Sapphire Vapor-X Tri-X OC R9 280X and Asus R9 280X DirectCU II TOP were good for 56fps. Gigabyte’s R9 280X WindForce 3X OC had the best showing with 57.5fps.
