Atto Disk Benchmark’s read results are interesting as the MX200 maxed out at just 398MB/s while the BX100 went on to reach 547MB/s. The MX100 reached 549MB/s when working with 128K data while it was also faster at the other four tested data points as well. The write performance was more consistent, though the MX200 did trail the older MX100 in the 8K and 32K tests while the performance was eventually matched in the 128K test....

At idle the Cubitek HPTX-ICE performed very well, keeping the Phenom II X6 1100T at 22 degrees. The Inno3D GeForce GTX 580 OC was also very cool at 35 degrees, while the Western Digital HDDs were kept at 20 degrees. The HPTX-ICE maintained its solid performance under full load, roughly matching the Cooler Master HAF X. The graphics card never exceeded 72 degrees, which is the best temperature we’ve recorded (again, tied with the HAF X)....

Cyclops Blink is a Kremlin-linked malware that has existed since 2019. It is tied to the elite Sandworm hacking group. According to UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), it initially targeted WatchGuard Firebox devices. Sandworm was linked to other well-known cyber-attacks, like the NotPetya ransomware, which has caused billions of dollars worth of damage globally since June 2017, and the BlackEnergy malware behind the Ukrainian blackouts of 2015-16. Researchers with Trend Micro note that Cyclops Blink casts a wide net in terms of the devices it infects, with no specific focus on high-value government or diplomatic entities....

With every new iteration they’ve been careful – if not overly conservative – to tweak the formula just enough. Das’ minimal approach means its keyboards don’t carry all the bells and whistles you’ll find in many similarly priced units. The policy change was announced on Friday in a blog post by Discord’s senior platform policy specialist Alex Anderson. The upcoming FIFA 23 will be the last game by EA to carry the name of the sport’s governing body—next year’s entry will be called EA Sports FC. Pre-orders recently became available in India on the Epic Games Store for 4.80 Indian rupees (INR), which works out at $0.06, so it’s easy to imagine plenty of gamers took advantage of this pricing. FIFA 23 is meant to be priced at 3,499 INR in India, or just over $44, meaning buyers got an impressive 99....

If you’re willing to make a couple of sacrifices to rectify the matter, this mod may be for you. The “Pause the Game” mod from TechieW adds a simple pause function to Elden Ring on the PC. In order to use the mod, you’ll have to disable Easy Anti-Cheat, which in turn means you can’t play online. A game without a proper pause function adds a layer of inconvenience to the overall equation....

It was back in mid-April when Musk made his initial offer to buy Twitter for $44 billion. He then withdrew from the deal over allegations that there are more fake/spam accounts on the site than the company claims. Both parties looked to be heading to the courts over the matter, but Musk backtracked and agreed to the purchase at the original price. It’s suspected he chose this path as the billionaire had little chance of winning a court case, though he claims he’s buying Twitter to “try to help humanity....

It was back in May while he was still in the protracted process of purchasing Twitter when Musk said it was a “mistake” to ban Trump as it alienated a large part of the country, “… So I guess the answer is I would reverse the permaban.” Once he took control of Twitter, Musk said he would not be reinstating banned accounts until a content moderation council had been put in place, but it appears the Tesla boss decided to leave the decision down to Twitter’s users....

The many sanctions imposed on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine last week will “degrade [Russia’s] aerospace industry, including their space program,” said President Joe Biden. The news prompted a series of tweets from Rogozin, the head of Russia state space corporation, Roscosmos, that claimed without their participation, there would be no one to correct the ISS’ orbit, causing it to crash somewhere in the US, Europe, India, or China....

This week the EU’s second-highest court in Luxembourg ruled in support of Intel and dropped a fine of 1.06 billion Euros ($1.2 billion) that the European Commission levied against Intel. The case goes way back to 2000 when competitor AMD started raising complaints that Intel was giving European retailers special treatment, in the form of rebates, for favoring its processors over AMD’s. The European Commission handed down the fine in 2009, alleging that Intel paid manufacturers to favor its processors from 2002 to 2007....

In terms of performance we were disappointed to find the theoretical bandwidth of 25.3GB/s placed this card alongside the old GeForce 9500 GT. The GeForce GT 220 would in fact be much slower than the GeForce 9600 GT, which we felt was a bit of a joke. Not everyone can afford a high-end graphics card, of course, so we welcomed the addition for the sake of competition. But this is where things got even more ridiculous....

Finishing up we have Far Cry 2, which saw Nvidia’s latest budget card put in one of its better efforts, losing only slightly to the GeForce 9800 GT. The GeForce GT 240 around 5fps faster than the Radeon HD 4670 at all tested resolutions, and just as much slower than the Radeon HD 4770.

The HIS R9 390 was good for an average of 77 fps at 1080p when playing Gears of War 4 making it a few frames faster than the Gainward GTX 970. Overclocked the 970 does pull a few frames ahead so the roles are reversed. Jumping to 1440p again plays in favor of the R9 390 and here we see both previous generation GPUs render 52 fps on average which is quite impressive given we are using the ultra quality settings....

Like other similar marketplaces, the Russian-language Hydra Market was a hotbed of drug trafficking and money laundering. The Frankfurt prosecutors’ anti-cybercrime unit said it generated sales of 1.23 billion Euros ($1.35 billion) in 2020 alone, despite its customers being located mainly in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Moldova, according to blockchain forensics firm Ciphertrace. Germany’s Central Office for Combating Cybercrime (ZIT) and the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) today said they seized the server infrastructure of Hydra Market, which launched in 2015....

A new agreement between the US Department of Commerce and Google could spark a surge of new chip designs and innovations. According to the DoC, the Google-NIST partnership answers one of the most pressing issues in the semiconductor industry: big corporations have ready access to new chips and designs, while universities, researchers and small businesses face a major hurdle as they try to create something new. An open source chip design, which can be used without restrictions or licensing fees, should accelerate innovation and bring costs down dramatically....

The Nexus 5X is Google’s new mid-range contender, designed alongside the Nexus 6P to be the company’s poster boy for Android 6.0 ‘Marshmallow’. The handset is manufactured by LG, who has returned to the realm of Nexus devices after developing the much-loved Nexus 5 in 2013. Because Google didn’t release a five-inch-class smartphone last year, the 5X is the true successor to the Nexus 5, with many owners of the two-year-old handset eyeing off an upgrade around this time of year....

This fall, Google will begin hiding apps on the Play Store that don’t support recent Android API versions. The measure is meant to stop users from downloading apps that don’t meet the latest security standards. Starting November 1, Android users won’t be able to see or download Play Store apps that don’t target an API version released within two years of the latest major Android OS. Android 13 is expected to have launched by then, so apps that don’t support Android 11 or later will get stashed....
