Once in the “Advanced Frequency Settings” submenu, which is found in the MB Intelligent Tweaker section, we were able to reach a 4.7GHz overclock using a Core i7-2600K processor (from the original 3.4GHz). The G1 Gaming was just a single frame faster than the Founders Edition when testing with Star Wars Battlefield. That’s well within the margin of error, so there’s no real gains here. Even our custom overclock was only able to boost performance by 6% over the Founders Edition - which is pretty disappointing. This time we see a 6% performance improvement for the Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming, while our custom overclock was 14% faster than the Founders Edition graphics card....

Given that the Founders Edition quickly hits 83 degrees and then begins to throttle, that is a great result for Gigabyte. Though the improved thermals did nothing to help overclocking performance or performance in general, as a result the G1 Gaming is no faster than our overclocked Founders Edition GTX 1080. On Monday, General Motors President Mark Reuss confirmed electrified Corvettes will be in addition to the new Z06 and other gas-powered variants coming. The combination of large screen real estate and productivity apps mean that a lack of multitasking features will result in wasted potential. In addition to releasing Google One VPN for iOS users, Google adds a few features to it while bringing it to more countries. Google announced several new features for its password manager this week that will let users more easily generate strong, unique passwords while accessing them faster across multiple devices. Previously, Chrome would ask to save passwords as users entered them. Now there is a place in the browser to generate and store passwords manually. It can create, store, and autofill passwords for websites and apps across PCs, Android, and iOS....

Antiwordle is the exact opposite of Wordle. Instead of having six tries to guess the word, Antiwordle gives you unlimited attempts to not guess the word. It’s more difficult than it sounds. The game has a similar hint method as Wordle. Red squares mean the letter is in the right place, and all other guesses must have that letter in place. Yellow means the letter is in the word but wrong position, and subsequent attempts have to have that letter somewhere in the guess....

HP was stingy on details about the SSD, but Windows reports the drive as Samsung’s MZMPA128HMFU, better known as the PM800, a year-old mSATA module found in various systems by Samsung, HP, Dell and others. It’s powered by the Samsung S3C29MAX01 SATA 3Gb/s controller (same as in 2010’s Samsung 470 Series SSDs) and offers respectable performance with peak reads and writes quoted at 250MB/s and 210MB/s. The single SO-DIMM slot is maxed out with 4GB of DDR3 RAM which is plenty for tasks an ultrabook is likely to face....

If anyone is curious, it appears Japan Display Inc. manufactures the HTC One (M8)’s panel, which isn’t surprising considering they also made the majority of the M7’s displays. I wouldn’t be shocked if this was the same display seen in the HTC Droid DNA and HTC Butterfly, but it could equally be an updated model. The touch controller is provided by Synaptics. First off, as I mentioned earlier, HTC has switched from using capacitive hardware buttons to Android’s onscreen buttons....

And this brings me to the device on hand today: the HTC U Ultra. Unfortunately, this is not a smartphone that will return HTC to its glory days. If anything, odd design decisions show us that HTC currently lacks innovative thinking in their engineering department. The HTC U Ultra is a massive handset. It has a 5.7-inch display as well as a secondary display, similar to the LG V20, and capacitive navigation buttons....

Russia’s Vedomosti daily reports that the unit, which sells data storage systems and telecommunications equipment to corporate clients, will be disbanded on January 1. SCMP writes that around 2,000 employees will be asked to transfer to Huawei’s offices in other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries or be laid off. The report states that Huawei will be retaining the business unit’s offices in Moscow as it is prepared to return if “active hostilities” in Ukraine stop....

Our HandBrake workload doesn’t agree with Ryzen and even the Core i5-7600K beats the Ryzen 5 1500X, which explains why the Core i5-8400 is able to match the R5 1600. It was also only 15% faster than the 7600K and the reason for that being that the older Kaby Lake part operates at higher frequencies. Content creators might be interested in what the Core i5-8400 has to offer. Test with Premiere Pro CC showed the Intel 6-core CPU to be 9% faster than AMD’s Ryzen 5 1600 in this application....

The Core i7-5775C was 21% slower than the i7-4790K at completing the Excel 2013 workload, taking 4.1 seconds opposed to just 3.4 seconds. The Core i7-5775C matched the AMD FX-8350 in our 7-zip test, though this did make it 16% slower than the Core i7-4790K. Surprisingly the Core i7-5775C was much faster than the i7-4790K when running the built-in WinRAR benchmark. Here the new 5th generation Core processor was 11% faster as it managed 12409KB/s....

Even as I write this it’s extremely difficult to purchase the Core i7-5775C, which is all the more surprising given what I am writing about: today marks the real arrival of Intel’s 14nm desktop processors and they aren’t codenamed Broadwell, but rather Skylake. Whereas Broadwell was a ’tick’ in Intel’s “tick-tock” manufacturing and design model, offering a die shrink along a few minor tweaks, Skylake is a ’tock’ which means the redesign should provide greater CPU and GPU performance with reduced power consumption, while remaining on the same 14nm manufacturing process as Broadwell....

We’ll also compare the 12900HK to the more mainstream Core i7-12700H, which we already looked at, and the new AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS, plus many others. Next to the i7-12700H, the Core i9-12900HK is a simple clock speed increase: same core configuration, with 6 P-cores and 8 E-cores for a total of 20 threads, but clocks are now between 100 and 300 MHz higher.
