The GeForce GTX 780 averaged 62.4fps in Battlefield 3 at 2560x1600, making it 20% faster than the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition and 29% faster than the GTX 680. When compared to the dual-GPU GTX 690, the GTX 780 was 32% slower and just 8% slower than the GTX Titan. The GeForce GTX 780 slipped further behind the GTX Titan when measuring frame time performance – it was 14% slower to be precise....
Here we see that the GTX 980 Ti consumes roughly the same amount of power as the Titan X, with a system consumption of 298 watts that is just 3% less than the Titan X and 9% more than the GTX 980. Again we see that the GTX 980 Ti consumes 3% less than the Titan X and 11% more than the GTX 980. Meanwhile the GTX 980 Ti consumed 3% less than the Radeon R9 290X and 43% less than the R9 295X2....
Considering that the Titan X delivered 71% more performance than the R9 290X in BioShock, it’s amazing to that their see power consumption is roughly the same. The Titan X was 66% faster than the R9 290X in Metro Redux and although we used Metro: Last Light for the power testing, it is incredible once again to see that both GPUs used roughly the same amount of power. When testing Tomb Raider we found that the GTX Titan X was 67% faster than the R9 290X and yet the Titan X consumed just 4% more power....
The RTX 3080 Ti Laptop isn’t your typical refresh though, because Nvidia have create new silicon for this product, namely GA103. Before this, the largest die Nvidia were using in laptops was GA104 but this new GA103 die gives us access to more processing cores without the need to go all the way up to massive GA102 silicon, which would be somewhat impractical for laptop form factors. On the spec sheet, there are two main improvements to the RTX 3080 Ti Laptop over the RTX 3080 Laptop chip....
Screenshots of an unnamed card appeared on China’s Chiphell forums, so take them with the usual pinch of salt. They were shared on Twitter by user HXL (via VideoCardz). The 3DMark Time Spy Extreme score is a massive 20,192, suggesting this is the RTX 4090, which scored 19,000 in another leaked 3DMark Time Spy Extreme graphics test in July. Assuming the screenshots are the real deal, the score makes the RTX 4090 90% faster than the Ampere equivalent, the RTX 3090....
According to new reports, the company has managed to reduce its manufacturing costs by anywhere between 8 to 12 percent. Nvidia has already informed its AIC partners of this news, as well as its intentions to pass these new savings directly on to said partners. Strangely, WCCFTech reports that those AICs won’t then offer those savings directly to consumers. Instead, they will be passed on again to system builders like NZXT, Corsair, Omen PC, Maingear, and others....
Despite its inability to outclass its predecessor in the previous test, the OCZ Vertex LE snapped back into action when running the 4K test. Here the drive had no trouble keeping pace with the Vertex 2 Pro, and while it matched the read performance of the Intel X25-M G2, the write performance was 35% greater. Furthermore, the write performance of the Vertex LE was 5.5x faster when compared to the original Vertex....
Intel officially announced today the Arc A series, which is targeted at laptops. A version of Arc for desktops has been promised for the second quarter, while a workstation version is due by the third quarter of the year. Add to that the preview that Intel gave of its impressive-looking GPU architecture (codenamed Ponte Vecchio) for datacenter, HPC (high performance computing), and supercomputer applications last year, it’s clear that the company is getting serious about graphics and GPU acceleration....
The 8th gen XPS 13 with a PCIe NVMe SSD suffers significantly in the sequential write test, with a performance decrease of 24 percent, whereas the 5th gen XPS 13 with a SATA SSD is largely unaffected. With queue-2 1-thread random performance, though, the 8th gen system takes a 5 and 15 percent hit in reads and writes respectively, whereas the 5th gen system gets punished with 18 and 39 percent drops....

Fresh off its biggest win, AMD now suffers its greatest loss in Dishonored 2, where the 1060 is 25% faster than the 570. Whereas the 570 dips down to 40 fps the 1060 never dropped below 50 fps. Salesforce Research has been working on an innovative bio-application for artificial intelligence algorithms. ProGen is an AI model designed to create synthetic proteins. It was trained with hundreds of millions of protein sequences in textual form resulting in artificial proteins that are as efficient as the natural ones at removing waste. ProGen has been featured in this month’s edition of Nature Biotech, where the researchers also described how the first known 3D structure of an artificial protein was fully designed by an AI system....
Samsung has squeezed the 5.7-inch display into the Note 5’s body in such a way that there are tiny bezels on the left and right sides, allowing the display to occupy 77% of the handset’s profile. This allows the phone to both look great when the display is on, and be reasonably ergonomic when the phone is in your hand due to a smaller body width. The quality of this display is excellent....
The rear sensor on the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge is the Sony IMX240, a 1/2.6" CMOS unit with a resolution of 16-megapixels, 1.12 micron pixels, and a 16:9 native aspect ratio. It’s paired with an f/1.9 lens with an effective focal length of 28mm, and optical image stabilization. Samsung have really targeted GPU performance with the Exynos 8895 to accommodate their virtual reality goals and the increased resolution of the Galaxy S8+’s display. The Mali-G71 MP20 at its modest 546 MHz clock speed dominates most benchmarks, up to a certain point. In terms of raw performance advantages, the Galaxy S8+ is 60 percent faster in GPU-limited workloads on average compared to the Galaxy S7 Edge. That’s a massive performance improvement in a limited thermal and power envelope, assisted by the upgrade to a 10nm process....
