The Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY is the first PlayStation certified mobile device to hit the market. This means that it has access to special ports of games from Sony’s legacy of PlayStation titles, in addition to the growing number of games available to the Android platform. In order to make good use of its PlayStation certification, the PLAY features a unique slide-out gaming pad with controls that mimic a PlayStation controller, including two touch-sensitive pads in place of the usual analog sticks....

Sony just announced the new LinkBuds S, a set of TWS earbuds designed to be as comfortable as possible while still featuring ANC and high-quality audio. Unlike the open-design LinkBuds released earlier this year, the LinkBuds S have a more conventional design reminiscent of Sony’s flagship, the WF-1000XM4. However, the LinkBuds S are much smaller and lighter at just 4.8 grams each. The earbuds feature 5mm drivers and Sony’s Integrated Processor V1, allowing high-resolution audio streaming via the proprietary LDAC codec and DSEE Extreme upscaling....

Several recent reports have shown that Windows 11 is slowly but surely making gains on its predecessor, and more Steam users are embracing the newer operating system with its gaming-focused features: Windows 11 was found on 19.59% of users’ PCs in May, a figure that climbed to 21.23%, or more than one in five, during June. Windows 10 (64-bit), meanwhile, was down -2.63%. Most popular Windows versions among Steam survey participants: more people started using Windows 7 last month!...

It appears that BTRFS must be quicker than EXT4 when reading data, as the copy performance which is obviously a mix of read and write performance, has the DS216+ armed with BTRFS well ahead of its EXT4 configuration when working with large files. Oddly the DS216+ was faster than the DS716+ in this test with the pair using BTRFS, though keep in mind the DS216+ was tested using a more up to date version of the DSM....

Unfortunately, we can’t be that enthusiastic about Western Digital’s Velociraptor Duo at $900. The unit is slower than today’s high-performance SSDs and it’s cheaper to purchase a pair of Vertex 4 512GB drives than it is to buy the Velociraptor Duo. Although you’d only have half the storage, the Vertex 4 drives would be worlds faster – especially in RAID. Therefore, the only scenario where the Velociraptor Duo might make sense is if a workload were too big to fit on a similarly priced SSD array....

Dropping down to the medium quality preset for Dishonored 2 still saw these graphics cards fall short of the 60fps target, quite short in the case of the GTX 1050 and RX 560. The GTX 1050 was 7% faster than the RX 560 for the average frame rate and a whopping 21% faster when comparing the minimum frame rate. Using these quality settings the game was noticeably smoother with the GeForce graphics card....

Civilization IV is another heavily requested title that I had ditched for my day one Vega coverage and you can see why from the results above: it’s a bad game to test GPU performance. It’s a great game to test CPU performance but as you can see here even with a heavily overclocked Core i7-7700K we are mostly finding the limits of the CPU. Again though, with 31 other games in this GPU comparison, adding Civilzation VI shouldn’t skew the results....
