For the application load test, we launch the following applications on Windows’ startup: Internet Explorer, Outlook 2007, Access 2007, Excel 2007, PowerPoint 2007, Publisher 2007, Word 2007 and Photoshop CS4. The test starts when the Windows 7 startup sound plays to the time the final application is loaded. It took the HyperX 5 seconds to load all these applications on startup, putting it on par with the Vertex 3 and Wildfire....

Smartphone cameras, though, fall into the one bracket designed to be the most versatile without being complex. Sensors are small due to the small footprint of a handset, lens focal lengths and apertures are fixed to reduce the number of moving parts, the lens is wide-angle to be most useful for normal shooting situations, and there’s not a lot of extra hardware to accompany the sensor and lens. In a Form 8-K filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, T-Mobile said it identified a bad actor obtaining data through a single API without authorization on January 5, 2023. Within a day of detection, the carrier was able to track down the source of the activity and put a stop to it. It is believed that the bad actor first obtained data through the impacted API on or around November 25, 2022....

The new images from Baidu allegedly show the RTX 4090 AMP Extreme from Zotac. It has a redesigned cooler that seems to be dividing opinion; it’s definitely different. The triple-fan card also appears to be at least four slots big, and there’s a single 16-pin PCIe Gen 5.0 (12VPWHR) connector, which can deliver 600W across 12 rails, four times as much as an 8-pin connector. The card also appears to feature the all-new font Nvidia is said to be using for its line of next-gen Lovelace products....

These machines were originally marketed as space-saving computers for areas with limited real estate like a college dorm room or a compact office. As we inched closer to Windows 8, however, several manufacturers jumped the gun and released touch-based all-in-ones running Windows 7 - an operating system that was released four years before the iPad and the onslaught of touch-enabled devices. Pre-Windows 8 touch-based systems did work in the sense of the word, but they weren’t very practical, often shipping with an alternative user interface to justify the use of touch....

While all of these extensions of mobile computing are exciting, the trusty laptop is still the most well-rounded option. Classified as a Lifestyle product, Lenovo’s IdeaPad U260 aims to be your “thin, light, stylish travel companion”. Lenovo added the ultraportable U260 to their IdeaPad line-up late last year at an introductory price of $899. Our price-as-tested today is $999 which includes an upgraded processor and a custom Clementine Orange paint scheme....

Lenovo’s Y70 Touch isn’t a wild departure from the laptop designs you’re used to seeing. In fact, it mostly looks like an average notebook, only sleeker and slightly more aggressive than most. But unlike that aging Windows 7 or Vista laptop you’re using, the Y70 Touch boasts a 17.3-inch Full HD 1080 (1920x1080) multi-touch display. It’s Lenovo’s largest touchscreen laptop to date, and it’s built for gaming, video editing, and to be an all-around work horse for the modern era....

One thing I love about Windows 8 is how quickly it boots to a usable state (having a solid state drive certainly helps here). From a cold boot, I was in Windows and ready to go in 14 seconds flat. That’s a few ticks slower than the Yoga 13 but all in all, it’s very fast and runs circles around anything else Microsoft has released to date. Once inside Windows, I headed over to the Add / Remove programs list as I always do....

The size and portability of the Yoga Book is my favorite aspect of this device. When opened into its laptop mode, the Yoga Book is astonishingly thin; and when flipped into tablet mode, the 9.6mm-thin device is just as usable as other 10-inch tablets. Lenovo’s signature watchband hinge and a seriously beautiful design remove the need for clunky keyboard docks, confusing keyboard cases, and other substandard convertible solutions. In short, the Yoga Book offers the best mix of tablet and laptop functionality in a light, portable body....

The LG 27GN750 we are reviewing today is a very compelling product, it uses the same 1ms-class IPS technology, but brings it to a new panel type. Instead of going 1440p at 144Hz, the 27GN750 brings a 1ms rated response time to a 27-inch 1080p 240Hz panel. This gives us another option in the high-end 1080p monitor market and one that, thanks to IPS, could be a really convincing buy....

On the other hand, many aspects to this camera have been downgraded from last year’s model. The main camera has seen a resolution decrease from 16- to 13-megapixels at the same pixel size, though it is good to see the wide-angle camera has been bumped from 8- to 13-megapixels. Laser autofocus has been removed in favor of just phase detection, and the color spectrum sensor that assisted with white balance has also been removed....

Unlike a Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch that does all of the processing locally, games on this cloud handheld would be rendered and played on remove servers and streamed to the console. Players would simply interact with them locally on the handheld. Today’s announcement boils down to a teaser. Aside from a promised launch date later this year, we have no information on how much the system will cost or what it might even look like....

The first menu lets you switch between the G900’s on-board memory for saving profiles or the host computer. Saving to the mouse has a few advantages, namely that these profiles won’t be lost in the event of a format or if you take your mouse to game on a different system. It also includes a nice little battery status indicator in the top left corner. You can customize the profiles once you decide where they are going to be stored....

Today we’re taking a look at the 3GB version of the GeForce GTX 1060 which sells for ~$200-250 on eBay, and that’s about $100 less than what you can expect to pay for the 6GB model. A second reason to put together this test is that we want to see how a graphics card with just 3GB of VRAM is getting on in 2021. That alone should be quite interesting....

When playing with the high quality preset, Medal of Honor: Warfighter is playable using fairly dated hardware such as the GeForce GTX 460 1GB, which averaged 40fps at 1680x1050, and the Radeon HD 5830, which offered 37fps. In fact, the only cards that didn’t break the 30fps barrier were the HD 6750 and 6670. Even the GTX 550 Ti and HD 6770 managed 32fps, which obviously isn’t near our ideal 60fps, but it’s still playable if you’re not too picky....

Meta has announced it’s releasing a patch to slightly increase the Quest 2’s GPU frequency. The update should give applications a little more elbow room for image quality and framerate. The update, which is rolling out now, will let the headset increase its GPU frequency from 490 to 525 MHz. Meta estimates the upclock will give the Quest 2 an extra seven percent GPU compute power. Developers won’t need to update their software to take advantage of the boost....

Lumenisity, a company founded around new-generation hollow core fiber (HCF) networking solutions, has been acquired by Microsoft for an undisclosed sum. According to Redmond’s official announcement, HCF fibers will be used to expand the company’s ability to optimize its global cloud infrastructure for customers in need of stricter latency and security requirements. HCF cables are a combination of optical fibers and coaxial cables. Lumenisity’s proprietary design improves on the base technology with a hollow, air-filled core surrounded by a ring of glass tubes....

Microsoft has acknowledged a severe bug in Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022 that results in data damage for devices equipped with processors supporting the newest Vector Advanced Encryption Standard (VAES) instruction set. Only newer CPU generations support VAES instructions, including Ice Lake, Tiger Lake, Rocket Lake, and AMD’s upcoming Zen 4. You can also manually enable them on early Alder Lake processors on certain motherboards, although Intel has physically fused off AVX-512 entirely in newer CPU revisions....

The Z68M-ITX/HT was faster again, beating the A75M-ITX by a 24% margin in the lightweight test. That gap narrowed to about 8% in the productivity portion. As with SPECviewperf v11, we installed the GTX 580 for CINEBENCH R11.5. This allowed the Core i3-2120 to outpace the A8 and A6 series processors in the OpenGL test. However, when measuring CPU performance, CINEBENCH R11.5 found the A8-3850 to be 7% faster than the entry-level Sandy Bridge processor....
