Again, the ECS P67H2-A2 gave the best show when testing with CINEBENCH R11.5. This was true for the OpenGL test anyway, where the ECS P67H2-A2 rendered 58fps making it slightly faster than the Gigabyte P67A-UD7. The Asus P8P67 Deluxe turned out to be the slowest with 56fps. The WinRAR results are extremely close but Gigabyte’s board fell to last while ECS remained on top. Like we said, the difference in speed is trivial....
But this new monitor from Acer, an upgraded version of the X34, is even better in almost every way. It’s called the Predator X34P, and it could be the perfect monitor to tide us over before the HDR-capable X35 finally hits the market. As an interesting note, the Predator X34P has received its fair share of launch troubles. This monitor was actually unveiled all the way back at Computex 2016, so it’s taken a long time for the new panel in this display to become ready for mass production....
Again, keep in mind that the AMD A75 FCH provides six SATA 6Gb/s ports supporting RAID0, 1, 10 as well as four USB 3.0 ports and ten USB 2.0 ports. While Ryzen processors are typically known for packing many cores, we’ve seen quad-core variants such as the Ryzen 3 1200 and more recently the 2200G. The Athlon 200GE is a dual-core though, but before your shrek louder than the coil whine of a cheap graphics card, consider the price, this is a $55 processor. The Athlon 200GE’s two cores are clocked at 3.2 GHz, there’s 5MB of cache in total, and the integrated Radeon GPU packs just 3 compute units....
The Phenom II X4 965 is able to shave an additional 6% off the rendering time of the 955 result. The Phenom performed better than the Core 2 Quad Q9650 while remaining behind the Core i7 940. When testing with Adobe After Effects CS3 we also saw a 6% reduction in rendering time when using the Phenom II X4 965 compared to the 955. AutoMKV also reported a 6% reduction in rendering time when using the Phenom II X4 965....
Just as its predecessor, the Radeon HD 6950 GPU has been fabricated using the 40nm process, yet AMD has squeezed in 486 million more transistors resulting in a die increase of 16%. The GPU core is clocked at 800MHz, 9% lower than the Radeon HD 6970, while the GDDR5 memory also operates 9% slower at 1250MHz. Pairing that frequency with a 256-bit wide memory bus gives the Radeon HD 6950 a theoretical bandwidth of 160GB/s which, as you may have guessed, is 9% less than the HD 6970....
The Radeon HD 6970 performed well when testing with Battlefield at 1920x1200 delivering an average of 71fps. The card was slightly slower then the GeForce GTX 570 in lower resolutions, but gained back momentum and was able to top the GeForce in the more demanding 2560x1600 test. Hitman Absolution is rather harsh on mid-range GPUs when set to maximum quality. As a result the Radeon HD 7790 spat out just 22.7fps and yet was 20% faster than the GeForce GTX 650 Ti. The Radeon HD 7790 also did well in the frame time testing as it was 31% faster than the GeForce GTX 650 Ti. Medal of Honor Warfighter is one new DX11 title that can be played in all of its glory using mid-range hardware at 1680x1050....
While the display is using significantly less power if it’s sleeping, your graphics card is still drawing the same amount as it does in our desktop idle test, which leaves the display on while the PC is idle. AMD and Nvidia graphics cards have employed numerous power saving methods to reduce idle consumption. Such techniques include clock gating, power gating, memory compression and a few others. However, because the GPU remains active, it still requires quite a bit of power....
Performance in Metro 2033 was also impressive as AMD’s new card averaged 42fps, placing it 35% ahead of the HD 6970 and 24% ahead of Nvidia’s current single-GPU flagship. Moreover, it was just 9% slower than the dual-GPU GTX 590 while trailing the HD 6990 by a 24% margin.
When testing with Max Payne 3 at 2560x1600 the Radeon HD 7990 averaged 86.7fps, making it 5% faster than the GeForce GTX 690 and 23% faster than the GTX Titan. This also meant that it matched the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition Crossfire cards, making it 72% faster than the 7970. The frame time performance was also quite good as the Radeon HD 7990 took just 16.6ms on average between frames....
As a mid-range GPU, the R9 285 is meant to deliver mainstream performance at a competitive price. The “Tonga” GPU is essentially a newer, cheaper to produce version of the tried and true “Tahiti” GPU that has been used by many cards. For the R9 285, Tonga has been configured similar to the way Tahiti was for the HD 7950, which is the same as the R9 280’s configuration. This new GPU is based on the latest incarnation of the GCN (Graphics Core Next) architecture and supports DirectX 12 capabilities, Eyefinity, TrueAudio, Project FreeSync, next-gen Crossfire technology, next-gen PowerTune technology and 4K H....
Also please note that we tested the Sapphire Dual-X R9 285 which is overclocked by 5% and that will inflate our results slightly. Unfortunately we couldn’t underclock the card with the latest AMD drivers. When compared to the 520mm2 Navi 21 die, Navi 22 which the 6700 XT is based upon is considerably smaller at just 336mm2. That’s a 35% reduction in die size, all manufactured on TSMC’s 7nm process. When compared to the $580 RX 6800, and yes I’m going to compare the MSRP, the 6700 XT is suggested to be just 17% more affordable which honestly isn’t that significant, particularly given it packs 33% fewer cores, TMUs and ROPs....
Even though we are still a few months away from the launch of AMD’s next-gen GPUs, the company is hard at work developing the software that will make those cards work properly. A recent patch confirms that GPUs based on the RDNA3 architecture will support DisplayPort 2.0 and might be capable of the highest UHBR20 transmission mode. If used with a capable cable and monitor, that would allow for a maximum bandwidth of 80 Gbit/s....
Thanks to its relatively low clock speeds, the Ryzen 3 1200 was light on the go juice with a total system consumption of just 87 watts in our Excel test. Conversely, the 1300X was quite a bit thirstier than you would expect based on the 1200’s results. Although the 1200 is clocked 8-10% lower, it consumed 26% less power when measuring total system draw. The reason for this is that my Asrock board was running the R3 1200 at a much lower voltage than the 1300X and this really helps to reduce consumption....
The blue dots represent the Intel CPUs tested, and well, they’re all higher and more to the left than the competition. The Threadripper 2920X destroyed the Core i7-7820X for example, it also beats out the Core i9-9900K and in terms of value the first-gen TR 1920X destroys them all. Meanwhile the 2970WX is much cheaper and faster than the 7960X, so an easy win there. For those taking on 3D rendering tasks the Threadripper series is a must....

In a new analysis of the market shared with 9to5mac, Kuo calls the Apple headset “the most complicated product Apple has ever designed” and “a game changer for the headset industry.” He predicts that the headset will be announced in January 2023 and then released sometime later. Apple’s latest statement on AirTags lays out steps it has taken and will take to make AirTags safer.
