Two years ago, AMD updated the Ryzen Embedded lineup with the V2000-series based on the Zen 2 architecture and the then-concurrent Ryzen 3000-series. This third generation has shifted to a nomenclature based on the mainstream processors branded the Ryzen 5000E-series. It features four models that borrow their names — but confusingly, not all their specs — from their mainstream X-suffix counterparts. From top to bottom, the 5950E is a 12-core / 24-thread model with four cores and eight threads less than the 5950X....

According to The Information, citing supply chain sources, Apple has instructed at least one manufacturer in China to immediately stop production of iPhone 14 Plus components while the US company’s procurement team reevaluates demand. The publication also reports that two downstream Apple suppliers in China that rely on the parts and assemble them into larger modules are also cutting their production by 70% to 90%. These suppliers are said to be the only ones that make the specific module for iPhones....

As I mentioned during that article, we hardly scratched the surface in the keyboard folio category, which brings us to today where we’ll be looking at the two aforementioned offerings in greater detail in addition to another popular choice, the Zagg Folio for third and fourth generation iPads. Modern tablets were designed primarily as media consumption devices. But more recently, units like the Asus Transformer and the just-released Microsoft Surface are challenging this idea with optional keyboards built for each slate....

Compared to Android and Windows, I was pleased with how everything just works on iOS, no mucking around necessary. There’s not a huge amount of control in applications and the OS, but there’s enough so that you can generally get things working as you’d like. The Control Center is extremely useful and the multitasking pane is much improved, and although the notification center isn’t as mature as Android’s, it’s not of a huge concern on a tablet....

iOS 5 includes a simple photo editor that offers an enhance function, a red-eye removal tool, and cropping abilities. There is also an HDR mode that can be turned on to reveal more detail when taking shots in difficult lighting conditions. Apple also finally added a camera shortcut to the lock screen (though it still takes three taps to open the camera from it), and you can snap the shutter by clicking the volume-up key when in the camera app....

The consumer technology industry has a “monkey see, monkey do” mentality. If a product or an idea gains a bit of traction, the competition jumps on the bandwagon as quickly as possible. Well, that’s true most of the time. While virtually every other manufacturer began pumping out phones with increasingly larger screens in the wake of the Note’s arrival, Apple was content to ship their next two iPhones with a 4-inch display....

A return to traditional office life is still increasingly questioned by employees as some companies have adopted policies to gradually phase out full-time remote work in favor of in-person attendance. Apple’s hybrid work plan, which went into effect last month, is similar in nature, as it required employees to come to the office at least once a week in April and twice a week from May 4 onwards. Apple has patented some strange things over the years, which, sadly, have never materialized. So don’t be too optimistic about this… Apple Keyboard? Keyboard Mac? MacBoard? Regardless of what it’s called, this keyboard could be revolutionary if it ever materializes. It would undoubtedly steal some market share from MacBooks and desktop Macs and change our notion of portable computing. On the one hand, this is a laptop without a screen....

So the Beebox can in fact support 4K playback under the right conditions. It’s also worth noting that we removed a stick of memory and tried 4K playback with single-channel memory as Asrock says this is why other NUCs can’t deliver smooth playback, and they are right. Using single-channel memory playback is noticeably laggy. Performance aside for a moment, let’s look at pricing. The Beebox that comes with Windows 10 Home, a small 32GB mSATA SSD and 2GB of DDR3 memory costs $200....

Throughout the benchmarking phase we have seen the Beebox-S just trail the Cubi 2 Plus, so it is only fitting that it does the same in the power consumption results. Here the Beebox-S consumed 1 watt less at idle making it one of the most efficient mini PCs tested to date. Under full load we saw an entire system draw from the wall of just 32 watts, 5 watts less than the MSI Cubi 2 Plus and well under half that of the Intel NUC6i7KYK....

Even with the hefty Core i5-6500 installed, the Asrock DeskMini is very efficient at idle, drawing just 16 watts. Under full load, as expected, the Core i5-6500 consumes quite a bit more power than the Core i3-6100T feautred in the Cubi 2 Plus. That said, at 61 watts the DeskMini still consumes very little power. Stressing the CPU and GPU to the max sees power consumption of the DeskMini climb to 76 watts which is again very low when compared to most comparable desktop systems....

The Asrock DeskMini was tested using DDR4-2133 memory in a dual-channel configuration just as the MSI Cubi 2 Plus was. However, the DeskMini has the advantage of being tested with a faster Core i5 processor and therefore delivered a more impressive 27.4GB/s. Again, because the DeskMini was tested with a Core i5 processor it came out on top when measuring cache performance, the 6500 was a good bit faster than anything we had tested previously in a small form factor PC....

There isn’t much point in testing gaming performance or even application performance really as the motherboard doesn’t impact anything here. That said, we ran the Excel benchmark and took a look at memory performance. The focus will be on the audio performance along with the boards latency. The Z270 boards were tested with slightly faster DDR4 memory giving them an edge over the older Z170 motherboards in the SiSoftware memory bandwidth test....

Sam Bankman-Fried was scheduled to testify before Congress today, but he won’t make that appointment. Bahamian police arrested the former cryptocurrency magnate on Monday night at the request of US authorities. Bankman-Fried will remain in custody in the Bahamas as he awaits extradition to the United States. “S.B.F.’s arrest followed receipt of formal notification from the United States that it has filed criminal charges against S.B.F. and is likely to request his extradition,” said Bahamian officials....

Just four years after its initial release in March 2018, the AOMedia Video 1 (AV1) codec is becoming a very appealing competitor to H.264 and HEVC/H.265 as the most used video standard in the industry. Hardware support is accelerating, and now developers have released a new version of the royalty-free technology bringing pretty remarkable gains for encoding performance in CPU-bound scenarios. Google engineers just released the latest version, AOM-AV1 3....

Meanwhile the Radeon HD 6950 delivered roughly the same performance as the older Radeon HD 5870 and GeForce GTX 480. With all three graphics cards easily cracking 60fps, they provided highly playable performance. Even the relatively affordable GeForce GTX 560 Ti cracked the 60fps barrier, while the Radeon HD 6870 churned out exactly that mark. The more budget oriented GeForce GTX 460 and Radeon HD 6850 were able to deliver playable performance with 49fps each....

Now approaching two years since we tested Be Quiet’s initial creation, the company is taking things to the next level. At its core, however, we’ve come to appreciate it as an engineering masterpiece that is without a doubt one of the most flexible and customizable computer cases on the market today....

This system only has $350 worth of core components but that buys a quad-core CPU with decent integrated graphics, 8GB of high-speed DDR3 memory, a 120GB SSD, an optical drive and a solid case/power supply combo to bring everything together. The Budget Box is ideal for everyday computing though it will handle some lightweight gaming. For anything beyond that you’ll want to invest in a dedicated GPU such as the $100 Radeon R7 260X, which offered the Budget Box 355% more performance in BioShock Infinite in our tests and allowed the game to run at 50fps on ultra quality....

The Radeon HD 6770 – which is a rebadged 5770 – averaged a very playable 67fps, as did the GeForce GTX 550 Ti. All graphics cards north of the GTX 550 Ti scored more than 80fps with many cracking triple digits. Brink becomes more challenging for low and mid-range cards when running at 1680x1050. For us, 30fps feels too laggy, especially when playing a fast-paced shooter, so we found the HD 6750 and GTS 450 a tad slow here with just over 30fps on average....
