During WWDC 2022 on Monday, Apple gave us a preview of iPadOS 16, which addresses the iPad’s multitasking — or lack thereof — with a new feature it calls Stage Manager. Now users can say goodbye to split-screen multitasking with just two apps and hello to up to eight apps running simultaneously. It starts with Stage Manager on the iPad itself. Full-screen windows can now easily be resized by dragging the corner inward....
Brazil’s government ordered Apple to cease selling iPhones in the country without a charger included in the box, claiming that the company is delivering an incomplete product to consumers. The Ministry of Justice and Public Security also fined the Cupertino firm R$12,275,500 (about $2.34 million US). Apple began shipping phones without chargers two years ago, starting with the iPhone 12. Nowadays, all phones still on sale on its site only include a USB-C to Lightning cable in the box (no AC adaptor), including the iPhone 13 series, the newest iPhone SE, and even the older iPhone 11 lineup....
Apple just announced financial results for its second fiscal quarter of 2022, which covers the months of January, February, and March. The Cupertino company beat analyst estimates with massive increases in both revenue and profit across most of its product lines. For the quarter, Apple reported $97.3 billion in revenue, a nine percent increase year over year, and a profit of $25 billion, netting $1.52 in earnings per share. Apple doesn’t report unit sales for its products, providing a breakdown of revenue by category instead....
The Beebox consumed just 6 watts at idle with a 2TB 2.5" hard drive, 16GB of DDR3 memory and the 128GB SSD installed. Taking all that into consideration, using just 2 watts more than the ECS Liva X the Beebox is extremely efficient. With both cores at a constant 100% load the Beebox consumed just 9 watts, which was just 3 watts more than the LivaX but 8 watts less than the Asrock N3050-ITX motherboard and 28 watts less than the Sempron 3850 system....
In a move that can only be considered as insane, Intel went with the old power hungry 945G chipset for supporting the Atom. This chipset alone consumes 22 watts and in the process provides users with a poor graphics engine. Sadly, this has rendered the Atom useless for a number of tasks that otherwise they would be ideal for, such as a HTPC. The 945G chipset is the biggest reason why the Atom has been limited to basic word processing, Internet surfing and email use....
The CINEBENCH R11.5 results were also very similar between both boards, though you will notice that the Core i7 2600K provides considerably better GPU performance in this test than the Phenom II X6 1100T and Core i5 750. Again, we saw little to no performance different between the Z68 and P67 chipsets in WinRAR.
As expected, gaming performance is much the same on all three Z87 motherboards. That said, the Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H did frequently fall short of the Extreme11/ac, XPower and Fatal1ty boards.
The extra length allowed Asus to include a PCI Express 1x slot along with a pair of traditional PCI slots, none of which we feel are necessary as the single PCI Express 16x (electrically x4) slot should be sufficient. Although the E35M1-M and E35M1-M Pro boards use the larger uATX form factor, the more expensive E35M1-I Deluxe is a Mini-ITX board. The Asus E35M1-M Pro retails for $140, making it a good value particularly when compared to similarly configured Atom boards....
Something worth noting is that the memory bandwidth performance of the Phenom II X4 965 processor is considerably weaker than the Core i5 750. The Phenom II X4 965 processors L2 cache performance is also weaker, particularly when writing data as the Core i5 750 was 19% faster here.
According to a report from TFT Central, an internal roadmap from AU Optronics highlights a few upcoming high-resolution, high-refresh-rate monitor panels. With one of them, the company is trying to reach 540Hz but is yet unsure if it can get there. The panel marked as M241HTN01.0 may be the same powering the ROG Swift 500Hz display that was unveiled by Asus, Nvidia and AUO in May during Computex. Like the Swift, this panel is meant to power a 24" 1080p display....

Taking that into consideration, we wouldn’t fault you for using BF4 as an excuse to upgrade your GPU(s), especially if you’re going to buy the Radeon R9 290X. If you can afford it, AMD’s single-GPU flagship seems like a great value when you compare its performance to the GTX 780, with the former offering 30% more frames to meet our ideal of 60fps when playing at 1920x1200 on ultra quality....
Borderlands 3 seems to hammer the CPU quite a bit and we suspect the DRM is to blame for that. A lot of quad-core owners are complaining about horrible stuttering, so that’s something to be aware of. For testing we’ve used our Core i9-9900K test bed clocked at 5 GHz with 16GB of DDR4-3400 memory. After some investigation we decided against using the built-in benchmark and we generally try to avoid canned benchmarks when we can....

Jacob Wayne John Keen, 24, was arrested for allegedly selling a trojan virus named Imminent Monitor to cyber criminals, domestic violence perpetrators, among others from as many as 128 different countries. The tool allowed users to target unsuspecting victims to steal their personal data, track information entered into documents, and spy on them using the target’s webcams and microphones. The arrest was made following a global sting operation that was set in motion in 2017....
Research firm Techcet (via The Register) writes that while manufacturing capacity is growing, it will not be enough to meet projected wafer demand in 2022 or 2023, impacting chip production and prices. It writes that 300mm wafers are being produced at the rate of 7,200 wafers per month (wpm), which is approximately equal to the projected demand, but that demand is increasing fast, and wafers are specialized to customer specifications and device requirements, so supply issues can vary based on customer needs....
