The Verizon Wireless version of the Xperia PLAY features a stock version of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. This, combined with a snappy, second-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1GHz, makes the PLAY fast and quick to use, with little or no lag for most functions. While stock Gingerbread might not have the over-the-top look of custom interfaces like HTC’s Sense UI and Samsung’s TouchWiz, it is cohesive and easy enough to use....

In its latest earnings report, Sony lowered its profit forecast for the year by 16 percent from the 305 billion yen ($2.3 billion) it predicted in May to 255 billion yen ($1.9 billion). Part of that comes from the $3.7 billion acquisition of Bungie, but it’s also the result of “an expected decrease in sales of first-party titles.” The Verge notes that while excellent PlayStation exclusives Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 did arrive in 2022, they had to compete against the multi-platform Elden Ring....

Those who prefer bigger tablets aren’t left out in the cold though. Android OEMs like Sony continue to release high-quality products like the Xperia Z2 Tablet - which I’m taking a look at today - to pair with their flagship smartphones, but they still face tough competition from the iPad, and also from flexible and powerful hybrid Windows 8.1 devices. The Xperia Z2 Tablet is a successor to last year’s Xperia Tablet Z, and like what we’re seeing in Sony’s smartphone range, the device is an incremental update to what came before....

On Wednesday, Nvidia announced that it’s offering free Steam copies of Spider-Man Remastered with purchases of an RTX 3080, 3080Ti, 3090, or 3090 Ti from now until October 12. The deal applies to individual GPUs as well as desktops and laptops containing the higher-end Ampere cards from participating retailers. Users must redeem game codes through Nvidia’s GeForce Experience desktop app. Tech analyses show Spider-Man isn’t a particularly demanding title by modern standards since it initially launched for the PlayStation 4....

With built-in natural language processing, and the promise of the “100ms rule” – making all functions accessible in a fraction of a second – Superhuman definitely has a lot going for it. But at $30 per month for what’s essentially an app built on top of Gmail, it also raises questions about value. Is it worth the hype? Is it the future of email or just another Gmail wannabe? The DS2413+ delivered similar read performance to the DS713+ in Atto Disk Benchmark’s read test. Starting at 15MB/s when working with 1K data, the DS2413+ quickly jumped to 63MB/s for the 8K test and then 103MB/s for 32K and finally 119MB/s when working with 128K data – considerably faster than the Thecus N5550 (though this is a budget NAS) as well as the 2-bay QNAP TS-269L. Atto Disk Benchmark’s write performance results were similar: the DS2143+ was particularly fast here, often providing much more performance than the DS713+ with the DX513....

Testing Battlefield 3 at 1680x1050 revealed that the GeForce GTX 650 Ti was capable of 43fps, making it 19% faster than the Radeon HD 7770 and 59% faster than the 7750, while it was also 10% faster than the 6870. Turning the resolution up to 1920x1200 we find that the GeForce GTX 660 Ti was able to average 60fps, making it 7% faster than the Radeon HD 7870 and just 2% slower than the 7950....

Sound Originally a $300 headset, now discounted to $205, put the i60 in the same bracket as the Astro A50 and SteelSeries H Wireless. Acoustically though, Turtle Beach’s premium entry doesn’t uphold the same standard. Armed with 50mm drivers (40mm is used by both Astro and SteelSeries), I expected big sound from the i60. Although richly detailed and clear, the absence of low-end notes was a surprising disappointment. I tried all of the available EQ modes including “bass boost” and the results were underwhelming....

In the first three weeks of this year, over 100,000 workers in the tech industry have lost their jobs. A new report shows that severance packages vary greatly from one tech giant to another. On Friday, Google parent Alphabet announced it was laying off 12,000 employees, about 6 percent of its global workforce. According to an SEC filing, severance packages for US employees include 16 weeks of salary and accelerated share vesting plus an additional two weeks for every year of employment at the company....

Launched in 2015 on the PlayStation 4, Bloodborne is probably best known for being grade-A difficult. That fact should be no surprise since it is a Hidetaka Miyazaki game and lies spiritually within the Souls franchise. It was well-received by critics and fans, with some saying it was even better than the other games in the Souls series. Six years later, in January 2021, game developer Lilith Walther began porting Bloodborne to Windows, but with a twist....
