CAMM, which stands for Compression Attached Memory Module, was created by Schnell and introduced by Dell last year in its Precision 7670 workstation laptop. According to a report from Chinese customs, the shipment was seized after a routine inspection found three mislabelled GPUs inside. A subsequent investigation discovered that the company shipping them had declared them all with the wrong names and specifications. We were surprised to see the GeForce GTX 480 performing better than the GTX 580 with these settings. The cards were using different driver sets but by all accounts, the GTX 580 was using the newer, better optimized driver. This is certainly an interesting and unexpected result. The GeForce GTX 570 was faster than the GTX 470, though only by 2fps. The Radeon based graphics cards again suffer, delivering considerably less performance than its GeForce counterparts....

In 3DMark, the new XPS 13 outperformed the old model by 25% on average in the ultrabook appropriate tests, which is a decent margin considering the clock speed difference. In games I recorded similar margins: Tomb Raider performance improved by 31%, and Metro: Last Light saw gains of 29%, both when benchmarked at the same resolution. GPU performance from this laptop is impressive, but the gains aren’t enough to offset the increased resolution moving from 1920 x 1080 to 3200 x 1800....
This week, Disney released an update bringing 4K HDR compatibility to the PlayStation 5 version of the Disney+ app. The PS5 was one of the last devices to lack that capability for the service, and Disney+ is one of the final services to receive 4K HDR on the console. Disney+ on PS5 won’t auto-update to add 4K HDR because the company launched an entirely new app called “Disney+ (PS5).” Users can install it by selecting the Media tab on the home screen and then choosing All Apps....

In the run-up to Musk’s takeover of Twitter, reports circulated that he was planning to cut 75% of its workforce, or around 5,000 people. The company said there were no cuts planned, and it seems that the 75% figure was wrong, but Musk is now reportedly halving the number of Twitter employees. On Wednesday, Electronic Arts opened pre-orders for FIFA 23, revealing that the PC edition this year is based on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions and includes cross-play with those versions. FIFA 22 and FIFA 21 on PC were “Legacy Editions” ported from PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, giving PC players an inferior experience to the PS5 and Series X versions. The upgrade means FIFA 23 will introduce EA’s HyperMotion to PC, which mainly translates to improved animations....
The GTX 680 was exceptionally fast in Dirt 3, achieving 76fps at 2560x1600, 23% faster than the HD 7970, 52% better than the GTX 580 and only 4% slower than the dual-GPU HD 6990. Gainward’s card increased the average frame rate 7% to 81fps. The GTX 680 was slightly faster than the HD 7970 and GTX 590 in Just Cause 2 with 2% more frames at 2560x1600, though it was still 16% slower than the HD 6990....
The Gainward GTX 770 Phantom was 16% slower than the GTX 780 in Tomb Raider at 2560x1600 and yet despite that it was sill 14% faster than the GTX 680 as well as the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition. The Tomb Raider frame time performance margins are similar to the frames per second margins. Here the Gainward GTX 770 Phantom is 18% slower than the GTX 780 but 15% faster than the GTX 680, while it was 9% faster than the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition....
Microsoft Flight Simulator is now playable through the cloud for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Until now, it was only available for (a beefy) PC and Xbox Series consoles, but cloud streaming brings it to Xbox One, mobile devices, and lower-spec PCs. Users can stream the game at up to 1080p and 30 frames per second and play it with standard Bluetooth controllers. The multiplayer is the same as ever, so everyone can play together whether on PC, Xbox, or the cloud....
