3Dfx’s Voodoo graphics consisted of a 3D-only add-in card that required a VGA cable pass-through from a separate 2D card to the Voodoo, which then connected to the display. The cards were sold by a large number of companies. Orchid Technologies was first to market with the $299 Orchid Righteous 3D, a board noted for having mechanical relays that “clicked” when the chipset was in use. That card was followed by Diamond Multimedia’s Monster 3D, the Canopus Pure3D, Colormaster Voodoomania, Quantum3D Obsidian, Miro Hiscore, Skywell Magic3D, among others....

Although the NH-C14 is not a new product (it was released over a year ago), it remains their latest high-end cooler and as such we thought it was worth including. The NH-C14 features a rather unique design which is unlike anything else featured in our comparison. The NH-C14 features what Noctua calls their “C-Type top-flow” design which uses six 6mm heatpipes that extend up into a horizontal array of aluminum fins....

Their most recent performance series is called “Frio.” The original model, known simply as Frio, tipped the scales at a whopping 1042 grams which included a pair of 120mm fans. Those fans were capable of spinning at 2500 RPM where they could move 101.6 CFM, though doing so would generate a rather loud 43 dBA. The Frio was followed by the FrioOCK which was even heavier at 1093 grams. The extra weight was attributed to the larger 130mm fans which moved 121 CFM at just 2100 RPM....

That’s not to say a lot has been added to this motherboard but Asrock did include Firewire and eSATA support, neither of which can be found on the P7H55-M Pro. At the same time there are a few features that cannot be found on the Asrock H55M Pro but are available on other H55 motherboards. Legacy hardware such as PATA devices and floppy disks are not supported by this motherboard, for example....

Okay so time for some gaming results and this is where it comes unstuck for AMD. As I’ve talked about in the past, Intel’s low latency Ring Bus is simply better suited for gaming and we see this when comparing their own Mesh interconnect architecture designed for high core count CPUs. The Infinity Fabric suffers the same problem and it’s not until gaming CPUs require way more cores that this problem will go away for AMD....

The DFI LanParty DK P55-T3eH9 is targeted at a similar audience to the Asus P7P55D Deluxe, though on average it appears to be almost 15% cheaper. Although it forfeits a few features compared to the latter, such as Firewire and a secondary Gigabit LAN port, for the most part this looks to be another well equipped P55 motherboard. Let’s check the features out in greater detail. In total the board can support up to 9 SATA devices, just like the P7P55D Deluxe, via the same JMicron controllers....

Business Insider reported that someone paid $39,339.60 for an iPhone on Sunday. The seller listed the first-generation handset in its factory-sealed box with LCG Auctions on September 30. “Collectors and investors would be hard-pressed to find a superior example,” read the listing. “Relevance and rarity comprise a winning formula for this red hot collectible.” Bidding for the vintage 2007 Apple device started at $2,500. The auction house estimated the phone would sell for at least $30,000....

When we covered the launch of HP’s self-installing printers back in April, some of you praised the concept while others questioned it – and rightfully so, “plug and print” is a bold claim. Intrigued, we thought it would be cool to check one out, if only for the novelty factor. It’s not a huge hassle to pop in a software disc, but if it can be done automatically, why the heck not, right?...

Inside Windows I found the typical array of bloatware including McAfee Internet Security, eBay Worldwide, Bing Bar and Fooz Kids, just to name a few. In total, I removed 12 pre-installed programs, which was actually fewer than I anticipated. In fact, as far as these sorts of hybrid tablets go, the Switch 7 is the most powerful one you can get, all without active cooling or significant thermal throttling. Premiere Pro can heavily utilize the CPU, although in our CPU-based testing we have found that there is only a relatively small benefit to using a workstation with dual Xeon CPUs. Because of this, we are simply going to test with a single configuration using an Intel Core i7 6950X CPU. While there are faster CPU configurations you could use depending on if you export to 1080p or 4K+ resolutions, this is still a great all-around CPU for Premiere Pro which makes it ideal for comparing different video cards....

The new Fire HD 8 is powered by a refreshed hexa-core processor that is up to 30 percent faster than the chip in the previous generation slate. It is mated to 2GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB of local storage. Two megapixel front- and rear-facing cameras come standard along with dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, USB-C connectivity, a microSD card slot and a 3.5mm audio jack. Battery life is rated at up to 13 hours on a single charge but your mileage will vary depending on device settings, content consumed and other usage factors....

As you can see the AMD A4-5000 was able to outpace the Pentium 2117U in Far Cry 3, though with just 15.4fps at 1440x900 using the lowest possible visual settings it is somewhat of a hollow victory. The A4-5000 was only a fraction faster than the Pentium 2117U and Celeron 1020M, while it was 30% slower than the A4-5300. Although the AMD A4-5000 was 25% faster than the Pentium 2117U at 1440x900 when testing with Tomb Raider, it still produced a mere 16....

Although the Phenom II’s 6MB L3 cache increases performance in certain situations, it also elevates power consumption and essentially ruins the efficiency of these chips. Whereas the smaller dedicated L2 cache can be enabled or disabled as the cores are needed, the entire L3 cache stays awake even when only one core is being used. Apparently, AMD felt the performance tradeoff simply wasn’t worth it. Despite dropping the L3 cache, Llano’s transistor count is still greater than any of its predecessors, including the hexa-core Phenom II X6 processors....

The A8-3850’s performance in Resident Evil 5 was incredible. At 1280x800 the A8-3850 (DDR3-1333) averaged 69fps, making it 53% faster than the Core i7 2600K, which was previously the fastest IGP we tested. Using DDR3-1866 resulted in a 17% performance gain, making the A8-3850 a whopping 80% faster than the Core i7 2600K at 81fps – again, we’re talking about integrated graphics here! The Battlefield: Bad Company 2 results were equally impressive, with the AMD A8-3850 averaging 49fps with DDR3-1333, making it 44% faster than the Core i7 2600K....

Adobe Photoshop CS4 does not play well with the AMD processors and as a result the old Core 2 Duo E8500 is faster than even the Phenom II X6 1090T, which is obviously a very disappointing result for AMD. This is a perfect example of how hexa-core processors struggle in applications that do not fully utilize more than 4-cores or in this case more than 2-cores as the Phenom II X2 560 and Phenom II X6 1075T delivered virtually the same performance....
