The four models with expected June availability are the Lenovo Slim 9i, the Slim 7i Pro X, the Slim 7 Pro X, and the Slim 7i Carbon. The devices are expected to start at $1,799, $1,699, $1,499, and $1,299 respectively. The hardware under the hood is largely configurable, and the options are broader than ever. In the new Slim line-up, you’ll be able to choose between integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics and dedicated Nvidia cards, as well as CPUs from both the red and the blue teams....

Despite multiple attempts from manufacturers over the past several years, hybrids never gained much traction, not necessarily because of hardware issues but simply because the software to support such an environment hasn’t existed until just recently. Previous iterations of Windows did support touch in a limited capacity but the UI was never built with touch in mind. Evidently that has all changed with Windows 8 which adds a touch friendly environment front and center (but not everywhere) and Lenovo looks to capitalize early and often with the do-it-all Yoga 13....

The second rear camera has been included for wide-angle shots, featuring a 135° field of view compared to the 78° field of view you get with the other camera. The sensor is Sony’s new 8.3-megapixel (3840 x 2160, native 16:9) IMX268 CMOS, paired with an f/2.4 9mm (effective) fisheye lens and OIS. I believe this sensor is around the 1/3.2" mark with 1.4µm pixels (Sony hasn’t released specifications for the IMX268), which helps deliver similar low light performance compared to the main camera with its smaller pixels but larger aperture....

The current version was used for testing (v2.00.3070) and it worked very well. While SetPoint looks rather dated, the Options software is dressed for Windows 10. The primary menu is simply titled mouse and here the user can quickly customize the six buttons/wheels on the mouse to do virtually anything. The user can also swap the left/right buttons as well. Next we have the point and scroll menu and here the pointer speed can be adjusted along with the SmartShift sensitivity....

FurMark results are boring to stare at, though we were surprised to see the Phenom II X4 965 dominating the minimum frames per second test with 119fps, compared to all three Intel processors that were limited to 101fps. The maximum frames per second were all capped at 186fps, clearly showing our GeForce GTX 285 was acting as the bottleneck. Using the Unigine Engine, we ran the Sanctuary and Tropics benchmarks....

As you’d expect, after cranking the game up to 1920x1200, fewer cards broke the 60fps barrier. This time, it took the HD 7870 or GTX 660 Ti, which offered 67 and 70fps respectively. The old GTX 580 fell just below the threshold with 57fps, while the HD 6970 pumped 53fps. The new GTX 650 Ti was 1fps slower than the old GTX 560 Ti at 42 and 43fps, while both beat the HD 6870’s 40fps....

Although Warfighter isn’t compatible with DirectX 9 hardware, as the Frostbite 2 engine doesn’t support this old API, the visuals can be reduced for lower-end DX10 and DX11 hardware. We achieved playable performance when playing on high quality at 1680x1050 with affordable GPUs such as the HD 5830 and GTX 460, while current-gen budget GPUs like the GTX 650 Ti ($160) and HD 7770 ($130) managed 51fps and 41fps. Those hoping to play EA’s latest modern military shooter on ultra at full HD (1920x1200 in our case) will want at least an HD 7870 ($250) or GTX 660 Ti ($300), which hit 45fps and 48fps....

The first Oculus Quest headset arrived in May 2019. Unlike its successor, the headset has only a tiny user share (2.63%) in the VR section of the Steam survey, and Meta has just given its users more reasons to upgrade. As per The Verge, Meta has been sending out emails informing owners of the original Oculus Quest that the company won’t be delivering new features to the headset, and users will no longer be able to create or join a party....

During this week’s episode of GiantBomb’s GrubbSnax podcast, VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb said that, according to his sources, people at Microsoft have entered very early talks mentioning developer Obsidian and a sequel to the 2010 RPG Fallout New Vegas. Anything that comes out of these talks would be years away, as Obsidian already has other projects on its plate, but it could put the Fallout franchise back into the hands of some of its original creators....

I still love the Windows Phone homescreen with its Live Tiles, and the general functionality of the OS is as good as any. Cortana also continues to impress with its excellent feature set and strong voice recognition. However as I mentioned earlier, lengthy animations make the OS feel slow to use, and some areas of the OS (such as the settings screen) are very messy. Above all else, though, the main problem with Windows Phone continues to be applications....

Lost Planet 3 As a prequel to Lost Planet: Extreme Condition and Lost Planet 2, the third game returns players to the icy planet of EDN III as colonist Jim Peyton who works as a miner for Neo-Venus Construction (NEVEC), a megacorporation that served as an antagonist in the first two titles (and eventually does in Lost Planet 3 as Peyton uncovers a conspiracy). The third release reverts to a story-driven adventure similar to the first game and it’s being made by western studio Spark Unlimited instead of Capcom, though series creator Kenji Oguro is still the director....

We know that it has 2432 cores (27% more than the 1070) and a throughput of 8Gbps thanks to its 256-bit memory bus as well as a base clock frequency matches the GTX 1080 at 1607MHz (7% higher than a stock 1070). With that information we can guess that in less memory demanding scenarios, it will be close to the GTX 1080 while it will be closer to the 1070 when memory throughput is more critical, although we’re curious to see how overclocking affects its standing....

Ford Mustang aftermarket enthusiasts may soon find it harder to make performance modifications to their vehicles thanks to Ford’s new fully networked vehicle (FNV) architecture. The electrical architecture, which allows the automaker to deliver over-the-air (OTA) updates, will likely also encrypt the vehicle’s electronic control unit (ECU) in a way that renders previous modification methods ineffective. The enhanced encryption standard is a necessary response to the ever-evolving threat posed by hackers looking for new ways to access a vehicle’s control systems, driver information records, or communication and location systems....

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is suing three former MoviePass executives for fraud. The SEC alleges that Theodore Farnsworth and Mitch Lowe misled investors when selling them on the MoviePass business model using false information. A third exec, Khalid Itum, is accused of taking $310,000 from the company using false invoices. Lowe led MoviePass as CEO from 2016 to 2020. Farnsworth worked as chief executive for Helios and Matheson Analytics, the parent company of MoviePass, from 2017 to 2020, when the company filed for Chapter 7....

The Lumia 710 represents Nokia’s first Windows Phone 7.5 smartphone in the U.S., despite the fact that the higher-end Lumia 800 model has been available in other parts of the world for some time already. It shares a number of features with its higher-priced brother (mostly under the skin), but its low-cost roots can be quite evident in crucial areas like the phone’s display and build quality. Thanks to a fast processor and Windows Phone’s attractive and snappy interface, the Lumia 710 is no slouch when you use it, and the phone benefits from solid call quality, decent battery life, and a usable camera....

Nokia’s three new C-series phones unveiled in Barcelona are the Nokia C21, the Nokia C21 Plus, and the Nokia C2 2nd Edition. They’re all entry-level devices running Android Go, Google’s operating system that’s a lighter version of Android, designed for emerging markets. The Nokia C21 Plus is the most expensive model of the three, priced at 119 euros, or about $132. It comes with a 6.5-inch (60Hz) screen and an HD+ resolution, a Unisoc SC9863A octa-core chipset, up to 4GB of RAM, and up to 64GB of storage....

Those rocking monitors with a high refresh rate will enjoy what the GTX 1070 has to offer at 1440p, as it averaged 142 FPS using the ultra-quality preset rendering at 100% scale. This made the 1070 just 7% slower than the Titan X, while it was 8% faster than the Fury X and 57% faster than the 970. Because so many of you have asked, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been re-tested with HairWorks disabled for our GTX 1070 coverage....
