Webb’s high-powered Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) was able to image the formation with far more detail than previously seen. When Windows 8 starts, it displays a lock screen that you have to move out of the way before entering your credentials, and then you have to dismiss the Metro interface before accessing the desktop. Like I said, I’m cool with Metro, but I have no desire to see a full-screen Start Menu when I log into my PC. Hopefully the retail version of Windows 8 will make it a little easier to force Metro into the background, but it’s entirely possible to do this on the prerelease builds if you have five minutes to spare....

Josh Munsee, director of Xbox integrated marketing, confirmed the change on Twitter and said it was designed to reduce the console’s overall startup time. As The Verge highlights, users will only experience the faster boot time if their console is set to energy-saving mode. This model allows the console to shut down, thus conserving energy when not in use. Instant-on mode allows for faster start up but requires power to keep it at the ready....

There are quite a few interesting things to note about Xiaomi’s latest (and first) Redmi curved monitor. Apart from the low price tag, this ultrawide gaming monitor bears a rather sleek and minimalist look, with no extreme angles/design elements or RGB lighting in its chassis. As for the specs, this 30-inch Redmi monitor features an ultrawide 21:9 aspect ratio display with narrow bezels, 1800R curvature, a resolution of 2,560 x 1,080px and a fast 200Hz refresh rate....

If you use Google Chrome, you should probably update to the latest version as soon as possible. Go to Settings (three stacked dots)->Help->About Google Chrome. Here you will find your browser version of the browser you currently have installed while also automatically updating Chrome to the latest version. Google released version 99.0.4844.84 late last week to address a severe zero-day security exploit. It’s already going out to users, but Google’s security advisory says it will likely take days or weeks to reach everyone....

Many in the Destiny community have been getting nailed with copyright strikes for about the last week, as chronicled in the r/DestinyTheGame subreddit. The claims primarily involve YouTube video makers who have been archiving sunsetted Destiny music that can no longer be found in the games. The Destiny takedown notices come as a surprise because series creator Bungie has never gone after these creators in the past. In fact, Bungie claims that neither it nor its partners are responsible for the copyright claims....

A similar story was seen when testing with Far Cry 2, which favored the Asrock H55M Pro and ECS H55H-CM by 2-3fps at both tested resolutions.

This time round we have the P8P67 Deluxe and it looks to be every bit as good as the P7P55D Deluxe, if not better. The P8P67 Deluxe has a number of embedded features in addition to Asus’ own brand features. The board’s storage has been expanded to include extra SATA 6Gb/s ports along with powered eSATA, dual Gigabit LAN, Bluetooth, 8-channel audio, FireWire and USB 3.0. Perhaps the most unusual feature included is Bluetooth as we almost never see it integrated into a motherboard....

The memory bandwidth performance was as expected when testing with AIDA64 Extreme Edition as all five P67 motherboards produced similar results. All boards were tested with the same DDR3-1600 memory which was manually set to the same CAS8-8-8-20 timings. Interestingly the only motherboard to show slightly weaker L2 Cache performance was the Asrock P67 Extreme6. Given that this test should only focus on the CPU it is strange how the Asrock board was consistently slower here....

According to HWBot, the record last changed hands eight years ago when an AMD FX-8370 was pushed to 8722 MHz. CPU-Z says that the record has been held by an AMD FX-8350 clocked at 8794 MHz for even longer than that, but both sites agree that the 13900K was the first CPU to pass 8.8 GHz and is the current champion. It’s also the first Intel CPU to wrest the record away from AMD in recent memory – at least a decade....

The NieR game series debuted as a sequel to the Drakengard franchise. After the release of the original game, which became a cult classic of the PS3 era, we were gifted with one of the most innovative JRPGs of the last 20 years, NieR: Automata. Platinum also remastered the original NieR, launching it as NieR Replicant. We’ve also seen the release of NieR Reincarnation and crossovers with multiple games, but it seems the creator still has more plans to expand this universe....

Last week, Activision Blizzard said it would cooperate with insider trading investigations from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and federal prosecutors. Both groups are scrutinizing bets that three investors made on Activision shares days before Microsoft announced a deal to acquire the company for almost $70 billion. One of them had met with Activision CEO Bobby Kotick the previous week. Diller In March, the Wall Street Journal reported that investors Barry Diller, Alexander von Furstenberg, and David Geffen bought options for Activision shares at $40 a share on January 14....

The PCMark 7 video playback test measures to see if each CPU can handle streaming 1080p content – all of our test configurations managed fine. MPlayer measures the maximum amount of frames each CPU can deliver when playing 1080p content.
