The GTX 980 averaged 53fps at 2560x1600 in Thief and through overclocking the HIS R9 290X Hybrid IceQ became just 6% slower. The overclocked R9 290X Hybrid IceQ was 14% faster than a standard R9 290X and GTX 780 Ti. Finally we have Watch Dogs and here the overclocked HIS R9 290X Hybrid IceQ was 13% faster than a standard R9 290X and 18% faster than the GTX 780 Ti, though it was 10% slower than the GTX 980....
Computers were mainframes, and minicomputers that could cost up to a million dollars were often sold in single digit numbers (per month), not to mention their initial hardware cost represented only a fraction of the overall upgrade and service contract. The environment in the decades before the microprocessor revolution were convivial and fraternal regarding the sharing of ideas and inventions. Between the low expectations of the companies involved and the need for early allies to create a broad base of support for the budding industry, the early days of the PC saw a spirit of cooperation that has so completely eroded it is hard to believe it ever existed....
Showcase Hologram believes it has the answer. At CES, the company (formerly Showcase PC) demonstrated two sizes of its holographic side panel kit. The smaller kit is roughly a quarter the size of a standard mid-tower side panel window, while the larger offering could replace your PC’s existing side window entirely with a bit of elbow grease. Tom’s Hardware stopped by the company’s booth at CES for a quick demo....
The higher your monitor’s refresh rate is, everything from moving the mouse cursor to scrolling down on documents and pages will feel smoother. It can also make you better at games that require quick responses, simply because you’ll see everything sooner. Windows won’t always default to the max refresh rate your monitor is capable of, so it’s worth checking out your settings. Note: A high refresh rate isn’t the same as variable refresh rate, which synchronizes the monitor’s refresh rate with a game’s frame rate....
The right side features power and hard drive activity LEDs, eSATA and USB ports, a Kensington lock slot, an Ethernet jack, exhaust vents and a power receptacle. The traditional VGA output has been replaced by the more modern HDMI / Mini Display port, something to note if you plan to connect the Envy to an external display. The back of the system only has a centrally-located exhaust port which becomes somewhat obstructed when the lid is opened....
Thanks to the aforementioned Synergy integration, messaging on the HP TouchPad is quite strong. Within the messaging app you can have all of your messaging accounts integrated into threads organized by contact. It supports most of the popular instant messaging protocols, including Google Talk/Jabber, AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, and Skype. You can also access the SMS messages on a connected webOS phone. Like Synergy on webOS phones, if you start a conversation with a contact in Google Talk, and then switch over to AIM to continue the conversation, all of your messages will be in the same thread....
As it stands, the HTC One M9 display clocks in at 441 pixels per inch, a very respectable pixel density for a flagship device. As I’ve said countless times before, 1080p panels of this size look extremely crisp, displaying great detail in imagery and native-res videos, and delivering sharp text that’s easily readable even with thin fonts. The Super LCD 3 display HTC has used in the One M9 seems largely unchanged from the M8 in terms of quality....
But when Intel raced out the 8th-gen Core series ‘Coffee Lake’ late last year, they did so with a single chipset, the high-end Z370. This meant up until today, the most affordable Intel 300-series motherboard you could get your hands on cost around $110. Now, some six months later Intel is ready to unleash their more budget friendly chipsets which includes the B360. We also have a few H370 boards on hand, but today we’re focusing on the slightly more affordable B360 boards....
The Core i7-4790 averaged 294fps for an 18% lead over the i5-4690. A much larger margin can be seen when comparing the i5-4690 and i3-4350 with the former being 53% faster. Meanwhile, the Core i3-4350 was 5% faster than the i3-4160. When testing with Hybrid x265 the i7-4790 is 16% faster than the i5-4690 and the i5 was 59% faster than the i3-4350, which had a 14% edge on the i3-4160....
The new Core family will consist of the Core i7, Core i5 and Core i3 brands. On the upper-end of the spectrum, the Core i7 will have 9xx and 8xx processors. The Core i7 9xx series corresponds to the Bloomfield 45nm processors we are all familiar with, which will remain exclusive to the LGA1366 socket. Then the new Core i7 8xx series (Lynnfield 45nm) will feature the 870 as its top processor with a clock speed of 2....
The Core i7-12700K currently retails for $450, while the KF model is slightly cheaper at $430. That means these parts are competing with AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X which features a $450 MSRP although the street price has been adjusted and right now you can buy one for around $390. In terms of specifications, the 12700K CPU packs 12 cores in total, made up by 8 performance cores with 4 efficient cores for 20 threads....
Broadwell was essentially a die shrink to 14nm from the 22nm process Haswell used. The most notable upgrade was made to the iGPU which we now know as Iris Pro Graphics 6200. Armed with 48 execution units, it trounced anything we had seen from Intel before, though the main reason for this was a new and unique 128MB eDRAM, otherwise known as the 128MB L4 cache. Upon release, the Core i7-5775C cost about 10% more than the Haswell 4790K, offering no noticeable performance gains when paired with a discrete graphics card....
Overclocking the Intel Core i7 980X processor to 4.32GHz allowed for a 14% performance increase when compared to the default 3.33GHz configuration. This took the completion time of the MonteCarlo spreadsheet test from 8.56 to just 7.34 seconds. The chip was 44% faster than the Core i7 975 EE, 48% faster than the Core i7 950, 55% faster than the Core i7 920 and a whopping 72% faster than AMD’s flagship Phenom II X4 965....
The Microsoft Excel 2013 workload was completed by the Core i7-4770K in just 3.86 seconds, making it just 6% faster than the i7-3770K and 9% slower than the i7-3960X. When compared to the AMD FX-8350 the i7-4770K was 30% faster. The WinRAR in-built benchmark saw the Core i7-4770K provide a throughput of 9546KB/s when using multiple threads and 1680KB/s when using just a single thread. These are similar figures to that of the i7-3770K as it was a little under 2% faster....
By now it’s no secret that Intel’s entry into the discrete GPU space with Intel Arc hasn’t exactly gone to plan. Many had expected the tech giant to be able to compete with Nvidia and AMD on mid- and entry-level graphics hardware but after several delays and a rather subdued launch that doesn’t seem to be the case, at least for now. It also didn’t help that Intel Arc’s rollout started with a low-end card, the Arc 3 A380....
The initial patches didn’t take care of everything. They addressed Variant 1 better known as Meltdown and then two Spectre flaws known as Variant 2 and 3. Recently though Intel and Microsoft rolled out updates to address Variant 4, a related “speculative execution” attack dubbed “Speculative Store Bypass.” Speculative Store Bypass affects not just Intel but also AMD and ARM. That said, AMD and ARM processors can be fixed via a simple software update, so if you keep your operating system and web browser up to date you’ll be protected against Variant 4 automatically....
All seven Z97 motherboards used the same DDR3-2400 memory using the XMP profile. Despite the fact that all of them operated the DDR3 memory at the same frequency using the same timings, we did see quite a variation in the results. The Asus boards produced the best results with the Z97-Pro WiFi/AC hitting 30.6GB/s and the Z97-Deluxe 30.5GB/s. EVGA’s Z97 FTW followed with 29.9GB/s while Gigabyte’s Z97X-UD5H-BK offered 29.4GB/s. From there, the MSI Z97 MPower Max AC and Asrock boards dropped down to 27GB/s, around 11% slower than Asus’ motherboards....
The past three Assassin’s Creed games have mimicked FromSoftware’s shoulder-buttons-and-triggers control configuration. And when Ubisoft “borrows” your combat system wholesale, you’re definitely onto something. FromSoftware are now something of a household name. Elden Ring, their upcoming title is being created in collaboration with George RR Martin of Game of Thrones fame. And while Bluepoint created it, the Demon’s Souls remake remains one of a handful of PlayStation 5-exclusive titles out right now....
Rishi Chadha, Twitter’s Global Head of Gaming Content Partnerships, posted that there were 2.4 billion tweets about gaming in 2021. That marks a 14% increase compared to the previous year and more than ten times the number of gaming tweets sent out in 2017. Chadha added that 2021 Q4 was the biggest quarter for gaming conversation ever on Twitter. Chadha also revealed the most talked-about games of the year. Sitting in the number one spot is Genshin Impact, miHoYo’s open-world action RPG that arrived on Android, iOS, PC, and the PlayStation 4 in 2020 (and PS5 in 2021)....
Lenovo’s Yoga series is one of the most highly regarded line of thin and light laptops on the market at the moment. Not only are they stylish and portable, the multi-mode design allows it to act as a tablet in one moment and a laptop in the next. Sure, they’re not meant for heavy gaming or video editing, but they are a great option for day to day usage. The highest end model in the Yoga line is the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro, the laptop I’ve been using over the past couple of weeks....
