The 12-core R9 5900X is priced to compete with Intel’s Core i9-10900K. Normally, the 10-core Intel processor would retail for $530, but due to supply issues, it typically sells for $550 or $600, which means the 10900K and 5900X are comparable in terms of price....
This week, AMD patched a Github repository to add a matrix-based instruction set to its upcoming RDNA 3 graphics cards. It could let them perform AI-based image reconstruction similar to Nvidia DLSS or Intel XeSS. Team red’s current reconstruction solution, FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 (FSR), already effectively lightens rendering loads while maintaining image quality without AI, but it’s a double-edged sword. Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) offers better results but requires the tensor cores in Nvidia’s RTX cards, while FSR supports a much greater range of hardware....

Since we only have the Thunder M7 and K7 plugged in that is all the software detected. The main menu above lets you select which item you want to examine/modify. Above we see the profiles menu to customize all the buttons for the M7 individually for each profile. The Thunder M7’s macro buttons can be fully customized and the icons in the software can even be changed to represent what the macro key is for....
Apple, Google, and Mozilla have announced they are jointly developing the next version of the Speedometer web browser benchmark to better represent modern browser tasks. The new version is still unstable, but users can start testing it now. Speedometer 3 is designed to test the full range of how normal users operate browsers by running on normal web pages instead of benchmarking in a tight environment. The developers plan to continually tweak the software based on up-to-date data on what features are most important to everyday users....
Just about anyone will tell you that creating and maintaining safe, hard-to-break passwords is a pain in the backside. Password managers are helpful for remembering and automatically entering credentials, but even still are not 100-percent foolproof. Even the most secure passwords are worthless if leaked in a data breach, especially if the password to your password manager leaks! Apple thinks it has a way to authenticate users securely without the need to remember complicated passwords and worry about changing them frequently....
The primary way The OG App differs from Instagram is the removal of ads and suggested posts from user’s home feeds. It also allows the creation of alternative feeds for different subjects, which can be shared with friends, without the need to follow accounts. There’s also an option that stops the feed from showing new content for 24 hours to prevent people from endlessly checking and scrolling. Users can disable Reels and the Explore Page, too....
Apple is sticking to its multi-platform streaming policy with WWDC 2022. The event will be shown on the company’s website, YouTube channel, events page, the Apple TV App, and elsewhere. The biggest part of the event will likely be dedicated to iOS 16. We haven’t heard too much about the latest mobile operating system. However, rumors say there could be several features designed specifically for the upcoming iPhone 14, including an always-on display and car-crash detection....
CNBC writes that the move comes during a historically tight labor market in the US. Inflation hit 8.3% in April, the fastest rate in more than 40 years, as unemployment remains low at 3.6%. It’s led to many workers, especially those in the tech industry, leaving their current positions to find work elsewhere that offers better pay or benefits. Illustrating this was Apple’s former director of machine learning, who quit the firm earlier this month over its return to in-person work policy....
Although there is an obvious change between low and ultra quality, one of the most noteworthy findings is that ARMA 3’s water looks fantastic no matter what visual setting you play on. In fact, we’d say the differences between very high and ultra are subtle, largely boiling down to the latter’s superior view distance. Looking at objects such as a military vehicle close up reveals little difference between ultra and very high, though the downgrade becomes more apparent when running on high, which takes a noticeable hit in anti-aliasing and texture quality....

The optical drive supports 4.8x Blu-ray read speeds, 8x DVD read speeds and 24x CD read speeds, 8x for DVD+/-R, 4x for DVD+/-R DL and DVD+/-RW media, 16x for CD-R and 10x for CD-RW media. The drive features a 4MB buffer with access times of 200ms for Blu-Ray, 160ms for DVDs and 160ms for CDs....
We started by removing the top rear aluminum arms and their connecting rods. In all, there are four large hex screws and two small Phillips head screws. The good news here is that Asrock has supplied all the tools required for the entire build. With those parts removed the entire top lid slides out exposing the PCIe x16 riser card and a few mounts for 2.5" and 3.5" hard drives....
When idling, the Asrock M8 consumed just 44 watts – typical for a system running an i5-4430 and GTX 760. That figure jumped to 117W with CPU load and 277W when both the CPU and GPU were stressed. You’re free to setup a fan profile in the BIOS and we opted for the silent setting, which still managed to produce excellent thermals with the CPU idling at just 32 degrees and never exceeding 60 degrees....
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was tested using Fraps to record 60 seconds of gameplay from the level “Cold War” with the best quality settings and 4xAA/16xAF enabled. We tested Civ V with a saved file that’s more 300 turns into a game, offering a good representation of gameplay. Using Fraps, we measured the performance at various zoom levels while scrolling around the map. Unsurprisingly, we didn’t record any noteworthy fps discrepancies between the Z68 and P67....
We dislike the small blower fan embedded in the large primary heatsink as it emits a high pitch noise that can be heard over the other system fans. The current BIOS version doesn’t provide control over this fan, so there’s no way to slow it down. If you feel your CPU cooler directs enough air over the motherboard, you can always opt to unplug the built-in fan. The Crosshair IV Extreme features the new Extreme Engine Digi+ (8+2 phase CPU power design with ML Cap) which is designed to combine high quality analog and digital design elements that provide optimum electrical, thermal and material performance for reduced switching delay times and improved signal accuracy....
In the end, the AMD E-350 platform saw an average CPU utilization figure of 24.67% when playing a Blu-ray movie, while the Ion-assisted Atom 330 was just 16.78%. That increases to 33.56% if you only measure the Atom’s dual-core performance. We also tested CPU utilization using a 1080p .mkv copy of Avatar (converted from a 1080p Blu-ray source). We saw similar figures, but this time the AMD E-350’s CPU utilization dropped down to 19....
The screen’s image quality and brightness were quite good; in size and resolution it is virtually identical to that of the Aspire One 751h. I personally love large resolutions on small screens like this as everything looks razor-sharp. Unfortunately our review sample had a single “stuck” red pixel, which I didn’t really notice until a week or so into usage. Vertical and horizontal viewing angles are about average. Typing on the 1011HA felt very natural despite the slight flex – I would rank it among the top netbook keyboards I have used – while the sleek touchpad design that sits flush with the wrist rest was a pleasant surprise....
Contrast is also limited on this display. Asus claims the PG258Q has a maximum contrast ratio of 1000:1, though I measured it to be around 850:1 by default, which is reasonably low for a modern display. Brightness, though, is impressive if you require a bright display, reaching around 460 nits at peak with default calibration. Through calibration it’s easy to pull this back to around 200 nits, which is far more comfortable for typical indoor usage....
It’s also the most expensive monitor you can get right now outside of high-end professional monitors, and certainly the most expensive gaming-class monitor, at $2,000. This makes it roughly twice as expensive as the next most expensive gaming monitor, so you’d really want it to tick every possible box and last for many, many years without needing an upgrade. There are many different aspects of this monitor to go through in the performance section, but first let’s take a look at the design, because this isn’t your typical 27-inch gaming monitor....
As per The Reg, Asus CEO S.Y. Hsu made the comments during the company’s Q1 earnings call. He noted that the falling demand for GPUs used for mining was primarily due to the crypto industry addressing criticism of the amount of energy mining consumes. Hsu is likely referring to Ethereum’s upcoming move from its current proof-of-work model to proof-of-stake, which in theory will end the requirement for high-end GPUs to mine the tokens....
