On Tuesday, Microsoft announced that it is working on an adaptive accessory line to make computing easier for those with disabilities. It partnered with various accessibility groups and individuals to develop tools designed to meet specific needs. “Each piece is designed in partnership with the disability community to empower people who may have difficulty using a traditional mouse and keyboard to create their ideal setup,” said the company in a blog post....

Software giant Slack commissioned the Future Forum Pulse survey, which covered 10,000 knowledge workers (those who spend most of their time on a computer) in the US, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, and the UK. The survey results show that around 34% of participants have now returned to the office five days per week, and that’s led to employee sentiment dropping to near-record lows. There has been a 2x as steep a decline in work-life balance compared to hybrid and remote workers, 1....

Since you can buy a factory overclocked 1070 Ti I’m curious to see what’s possible here so I fired up MSI Afterburner and started the process of working out how far the core and memory could go. In the end I landed on what I feel is a pretty mild overclock. The base core clock was happy at 1767MHz while the memory went to 2252MHz for a 10% bump in core speed and 12% for the memory....

On the GPU side, the GS40 Phantom sports an Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M, which is a 28nm Maxwell GM204 part with a 75W TDP. Raw performance from this GPU is similar to a desktop GTX 960, with the 970M packing 1280 CUDA cores, 80 TMUs, 48 ROPs, and a clock speed of 924 MHz that boosts to at least 933 MHz. On this laptop, the GTX 970M is equipped with 3 GB of GDDR5 memory at 5,012 MHz on a 256-bit bus, providing 120 GB/s of bandwidth....

My review unit was equipped with a 17.3-inch 1080p 120Hz G-Sync panel, which is perhaps the best option for gaming. At 1080p you will consistently achieve frame rates above 60 FPS with the GTX 1080, so the 120Hz refresh rate of this panel is ideally suited to the hardware in this laptop. G-Sync is a bonus, reducing tearing and stuttering across all frame rates by adaptively changing the display’s refresh rate to match the GPU’s render rate....

The use of a Core i7-7920HQ processor provides around 13 better performance than the more commonly used Core i7-7700HQ on average. Thanks to an easy overclocking utility provided by MSI, you can squeeze out an additional 13% more performance with very little difficulty, leading to a significant performance advantage over the 7700HQ. Obviously the main selling point of the GT83VR are the two GeForce GTX 1080s. Across all the games we tested, every title ran above 60 FPS at Ultra quality settings at 1080p, with many pushing into the 100 FPS zone....

More than 3,000 theaters participated in the one-day event, offering $3 tickets for any movie, any show time and in any format across more than 30,000 screens. Over the last year, Netflix has been working on ways to enable users who share outside their household to do so easily, securely and fairly. In the coming weeks, Netflix will start testing two features it has come up with to combat the issue. The “add an extra member” option will allow standard and premium plan-holders to add up to two sub accounts for people they don’t live with. Each sub account will have its own profile, recommendations and login credentials....

While the Lumia 710 won’t impress anyone with its network speeds, call quality was quite remarkable, as the earpiece was very loud and clear and callers were able to easily understand me. The Lumia 710 takes advantage of the Messaging hub in Windows Phone 7.5 to offer threaded SMS and MMS conversations and Facebook Chat and Windows Live Messenger support. Conversations from social networks are integrated with standard SMS and MMS messages in a fluid and easy interface....

The GeForce GTS 450 was a fraction faster than the Radeon HD 5770 and 5750 graphics cards when testing with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at 1680x1050. With an average of 39fps the GeForce GTS 450 provided modest performance in this game while the overclocked Palit GTS 450 Sonic Platinum card was only able to deliver 8% more performance. Adding another GeForce GTS 450 card improved performance dramatically to 60fps where it matched the performance of the Radeon HD 5770 Crossfire cards....

Not surprisingly this release forced ATI to make a few price cuts, most prominently the Radeon HD 5830 is now available for $200. But that’s not going to be enough to steal the new GeForce’s thunder. We still prefer the GeForce GTX 460 as there are many factory overclocked 1GB boards that cost around $230 and deliver performance that can match the Radeon HD 5850 and in some cases the GeForce GTX 470....

Sleeping Dogs results are remarkable for the GeForce GTX 980 averaging 52fps at 2560x1600 and pulling away from the pack. The new top-end GeForce is 23% faster than the Radeon R9 290X and 21% faster than the GTX 780 Ti. The GTX 970 was also able to match the Radeon R9 290X making it 16% faster than the R9 290. This time the GeForce GTX 980 was just 6% faster than the Radeon R9 290X while it beat its predecessor the GTX 780 Ti by a 10% margin....

Even at 4K the performance provided by the 2080 Ti was unbelievable, 59 fps on average with a 1% low result of 50 fps, in a game that looks this good, that’s an incredible result and if you drop the preset one level to high the average frame rate jumps up to 80 fps with a 1% low result of over 60 fps. The 2080 also does quite well though like the 1080 Ti you will at times notice those slight frame dips, but I am of course being quite picky here, after all they aren’t cheap....

Nvidia’s section on desktop GPUs in its CES virtual event mentioned the latest Steam hardware survey in which three of the top five cards are Nvidia 50-class cards (the GTX 1650, 1050Ti, and 1050). The company claims 75 percent of gamers still use GTX GPUs. It’s promising the entry-level successor—the GeForce RTX 3050—can maintain 60 frames per second in the latest games at 1080p to keep up with the Joneses....

According to the Geekbench 5 listing, this yet-to-be-released RTX 4090 mobile GPU features nearly identical specifications to a desktop RTX 4080, with both GPUs sharing the same core configuration of 76 CUs, 9728 CUDA cores, and the same 16GB memory capacity. The only difference is the maximum boost clock on the mobile 4090 which peaks at 2040 MHz instead of 2505 MHz, but that is to be expected from a mobile implementation of the 4090....

The primary way Snapdragon SoCs conserve power is through downclocking cores and even switching them off fully where necessary. Qualcomm has become especially proficient at optimizing their SoCs to boost up to deliver performance as quickly as possible, and the Snapdragon 801 in particular is one of the most power efficient chips I’ve used. As far as the Exynos 5422 is concerned, the Cortex-A7 “LITTLE” cores are more power efficient than the Cortex-A15s, so the idea is to use these cores as frequently as possible....

However, it is certainly worth mentioning that the performance delivered by Seagate’s Momentus XT and Intel’s SRT should only be compared to the first run of the RevoDrive Hybrid, as they were recorded from the first run. Therefore, in reality this does make the RevoDrive Hybrid considerably slower. After all, how many times are you going to reboot Windows in a row? When measuring multi-tasking performance the RevoDrive Hybrid performed quite well on its first run, taking just 11....
