Like many recent generation CPUs, Raptor Lake was designed at the company’s Israel Development Center (IDC). The chip is also being manufactured in Israel at the company’s Fab 28, as well as at other locations around the world. Final details on 13th-gen Core processors are expected to be unveiled at the Intel Innovation event in San Francisco at the end of September, but for now the company was eager to share that it will support speeds of up to 6 GHz (and the ability to be overclocked up to 8 GHz)....

VGC spotted that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) entry for the Intellivision Amico had been changed to Abandoned, signifying that the applicant has either not filed a ‘Statement of Use’ or requested an extension on the trademark within six months of the approval. Intellivision can’t submit a Statement of Use as the Amico still isn’t on sale. Since filing the trademark on October 19th, 2018, the company has had four extension requests, the last of which was approved on November 18, 2021....

While manufacturers haven’t exactly flooded the market with touch-enabled laptops, there are some good options out there already. Expect a crush of touchable Windows 8 machines at CES early next year, but for those shopping this holiday, we have cherry picked the best touch-enabled, Windows 8 laptops. Because the market has yet to be saturated, each manufacturer seems to have chosen a specific kind of consumer to chase. That means, for the manufacturer agnostic, it’s likely that there is a solid choice for your usage case....

Vanity Fair reports that 91-year-old Jones has given his blessing to artificial recreations of the Darth Vader voice, a role he has occupied for 45 years. The technique was utilized in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series in which workers at Ukrainian startup Respeecher recreated Jones’ voice to make it sound like it did in 1977. The company first teamed up with Lucasfilm on The Book of Boba Fett to recreate the voice of a young Luke Skywalker....

The transit system will use Tesla Model X and Model Y vehicles to transport passengers directly to their destination without having to stop at other stations along the way. Officials view the network of tunnels as yet another way to connect key destinations throughout the city and ease traffic congestion on surface streets. The project is being funded by The Boring Company and private properties, meaning no taxpayer funds will be required....

In the original report about the data breach incident discovered in August, LastPass said that “only” the company’s source code and proprietary information were compromised. Users’ data and passwords remained safe and unsoiled. Now, a follow-up security notice on that same incident is saying otherwise: the malicious actors were able to access some users’ data too. The black hat hackers obtained the cloud storage access key and dual storage container decryption keys, LastPass says....

The island style keys on the Edge are great and feel very natural when typing. There is very little – if any – flex and the slightly concave keys seem better than the flat top island keys used on the Acer Timeline, for example. The decision to leave out some commonly unused keys was a good one, and I can even see myself getting used to the Function key configuration that Lenovo proposes....

While I really liked many aspects of the Yoga 3 Pro, the area I was most disappointed with is the battery life, especially considering Intel was positioning their Core M chips as being extremely power efficient. I’m sure some of the blame can be leveraged towards Lenovo for reducing the size of the battery compared to the Yoga 2 Pro as well. When I was writing this review entirely on the Yoga 3 Pro, I typically got around 5-6 hours of usage before I had to grab the charger....

LG Display announced the 97-inch OLED.EX panel at K-Display 2022 in Seoul, Korea, earlier today. The company says it offers the realistic colors, fine details, and perfect blacks associated with OLED televisions, alongside the benefits of its EX Technology. LG Display revealed its next-gen OLED EX tech at the end of last year. It addresses the problem of lower peak brightness levels in OLEDs by converting the hydrogen elements present in organic light-emitting elements into stable deuterium, enhancing their stability and efficiency and allowing them to emit more light....

The free-form tech can be twisted and folded without distortion or damage, and is said to be more resilient than existing foldable and rollable display tech. MicroLEDs with a pixel pitch of less than 40μm serve as the light source and enhance durability, as does a flexible spring-like wiring structure. LG’s Stretchable display is the result of a large-scale R&D effort commissioned by South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) in 2020....

Stable Linux kernel 6.0 is now available for most vendors. Usually, a move to a whole new version number signifies fundamental changes, but that isn’t how Linux updates work. The OS’ lead developer, Linus Torvalds, admits he only called the new version 6.0 because he didn’t want to count beyond 5.19.12. Nonetheless, 6.0 includes many changes, including over 15,000 non-merge commits. Linux 6.0 introduces hardware drivers for Intel’s recently unveiled Raptor Lake and upcoming Meteor Lake processors and open-source drivers for the company’s new Arc Alchemist GPUs....

The most expensive is obviously going to be the Core i7 920 ($280) with its accompanying X58 motherboards retailing anywhere from $170 (Foxconn FlamingBlade GTI, ASRock X58 Extreme and MSI X58M) while most cost around $220 - $250. Add to that some memory - most will go for a 6GB DDR3 kit which costs about $140 for something decent - for a total platform cost of ~$640. In the past we have built entire budget systems for that kind of money....

The findings come from a study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), a nonprofit organization funded by auto insurance companies that aims to reduce vehicle-related deaths and injuries. The IIHS study, which covered 600 active users, found that 53% of Super Cruise (General Motors), 42% of Autopilot (Tesla), and 12% of ProPILOT Assist (Nissan) owners said that they were comfortable treating their vehicles as fully self-driving. Some added that they were happy to let the cars drive themselves in inclement weather and parking lots....

Shortly after that, Max Payne 3 was announced and it’s been in the works at Rockstar Studios since. The original game was developed by finnish developer Remedy Entertainment and published by the now defunct 3D Realms. Max Payne 3 promises exciting gameplay and impressive graphics, marking the return of bullet time in action sequences, while retaining the shoot-dodge mechanic from previous titles. On the technology side of things, Rockstar talked earlier about its ability to blend physics and animation....

Measuring CPU scaling performance with the Core i7-3770K from 2.5GHz through 4.5GHz revealed just a 6% increase in performance (97fps to 103fps) with the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition. This suggests that owners of Core i7 and possibly Core i5 processors need not worry about overclocking, as little is gained in Warfighter. When measuring performance changes when shifting the AMD FX-8350 from 2.5GHz to 4.5GHz, we found a 12% gain – twice that of the Core i7-3770K....

Asobo, the developer of Microsoft Flight Simulator, announced during a Q&A session last week that both Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) Technology and AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) would be part of the game’s Update 10 dropping this July. Additionally, Asobo said that it is working on adding support for the updated version of AMD’s upscaler, FSR 2.0. No word on when that will get here, though. And while Asobo Studio’s executive producer Martial Bossard said it would arrive “soon,” including it in Update 10 may be a bit optimistic....

The new Taskbar Overflow feature for Windows 11 improves usability for power users who want to make use of all the expensive RAM they’ve bought. With dozens of apps open at the same time, it can become a bit difficult to switch to the right program from a crowded taskbar. With this newly added feature, Microsoft notes that the taskbar will automatically transition to its overflow state once enough apps have been opened....

Microsoft acknowledged several known issues with the January 11 update for Windows 10 and 11 while issuing the fixes. One flaw caused Windows Servers to reboot unexpectedly. BornCity reported that Windows domain controllers would enter a reboot loop–a problem that affected all Windows server domain controllers. Another prevented virtual machines in Hyper-V from starting. One issue caused IPSEC connections to fail, affecting VPN connections that use Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) or IP security Internet Key Exchange (IPSEC IKE)....
