Sony has included what I believe to be the IU134F9-Z lens, which is a slim 4.2mm module featuring an f/2.4 aperture and 28mm effective focal length. Interestingly there is no LED flash on the Xperia Z Ultra, so it’s all up to the sensor when it comes to low-light photography. The front of the device also sees a 2-megapixel camera capable of 1080p video recording. I was pleased to once again see a Sony smartphone camera with a plethora of settings, shooting modes and features....

For the previous gen models we see that the GTX 970 and R9 390 are still getting it done, but ideally gamers will want a GTX 980 or better. It’s very interesting to note that the Nano does much better than the 980 while the Fury range isn’t that far behind the 980 Ti. Of course you can overclock the 980 Ti for a 20% performance boost, but still for stock results the Fury doesn’t look that bad....

Apple is expected to announce the third-generation iPhone SE this week at a virtual event, and it looks like interest for a diminutive iPhone with Touch ID and wide bezels is still high years after the company released the first iPhone with a Face ID-bearing notch. According to a survey done by SellCell involving a sample of 2,549 iPhone users, around 40 percent of them say they’re planning to buy the iPhone SE 3, either for themselves or as a gift for someone else....

When testing at 1920x1200 the GTX 750 averaged 20fps, 5% (1fps) slower than the R7 260X while the R7 265 was 22% faster than the GTX 750 Ti. The R9 280 dealt another blow to Nvidia, beating the slightly more expensive GTX 760 by a 9% margin. The R9 290 had no trouble dispatching the GTX 770 as it provided 27% more performance and the R9 290X was 10% faster than the GTX 970 and 10% slower than the GTX 980....

Testing Aliens vs. Predator at 1680x1050 saw the GeForce GTX 650 Ti render just 31fps, though despite this it was still 7% faster than the Radeon HD 7770 and 55% faster than the 7750. In fact it was AMD’s previous generation Radeon HD 6870 which was required to defeat the GTX 650 Ti as it averaged 37fps, making the Nvidia card 16% slower. At 1920x1200 we have a few comparisons to make....

The GeForce GTX 680 consumed 4% less power than the Radeon HD 7970 and 10% less than the 7970 GHz Edition. The GeForce GTX 670 used 4% more power than the Radeon HD 7950 and roughly the same amount as the 7950 Boost. The GeForce GTX 660 Ti consumed almost 4% more power than the Radeon HD 7950 and 11% more than the 7870. Meanwhile the GeForce GTX 660 used just 3% less power than the Radeon HD 7950 but 4% more than the 7870....

Microsoft delivered the final updates for Windows 7 and Windows 8 through extended security update (ESU) this week, closing the book on the aging operating systems. The China Software Development Network blog discovered that the update adds UEFI secure boot to Windows 7, but it appears to be a flawed implementation. Secure boot debuted in Windows 8, and while it’s a pleasant surprise to see Microsoft extend the feature to Windows 7, it doesn’t seem to work correctly for everyone....

Those looking to test Apple’s iOS 16 can install the first public beta starting today. Just sign up on the Apple Beta Software Program web page and enroll the Apple device on which you want to install the beta. iOS 16 supports iPhone 8 and later. Users should expect this version of the OS to be significantly buggier than the general release coming later this year. You should also back up your device and any important data before installing the beta....

After launching last Friday, the gurus at iFixit didn’t waste any time tearing down the iPhone 14. While Apple did not change much in the handset’s aesthetics, the interior design is much more repair-friendly. In fact, iFixit calls it the most repairable iPhone in years. “Apple has completely redesigned the internals of the iPhone 14 to make it easier to repair,” said iFixit founder Kyle Wiens. “It is not at all visible from the outside, but this is a big deal....

Right now Windows 10 is being blamed for the mixed results and perhaps rightfully so, we’ll have to look into this further and keep our fingers crossed for an update. In the meantime, a large number of people voiced concerns over our testing, and many others, as we were only testing a single application at a time. We had always planned to make a separate multi-tasking focused benchmark and we said as much in yesterday’s review....

So from that smaller 8 game sample we saw some very mixed results. Now let’s get the full picture by looking at the results across all 23 games. You’ve no doubt been drawn to the Wolfenstein result which saw the 3GB model delivering 65% more performance. This outlier is a result of the original GTX 1050’s 2GB VRAM buffer being overwhelmed by the maximum in-game quality settings. However, because the 3GB model averaged over 50 fps and produced a 1% low result of 48 fps I didn’t reduce the quality settings....

The RTX 4080 started life with a rocky launch. Despite the card’s power, it appeared that the $1,200 MSRP proved a hard sell for gamers, especially during the current economic climate in which consumers are prioritizing spending on essentials, and shipments of everything from PCs to smartphones are crashing. The RTX 4080 was so unpopular that even scalpers couldn’t sell them above MSRP, leading to sites such as Newegg refusing to allow refunds for the cards....

The flagship Naga V2 Pro features the same Focus Pro 30K optical sensor found in many of Razer’s latest high-end gaming mice, such as the Viper V2 Pro and the Deathadder V3 Pro. The main buttons use the company’s 3rd-gen optical switches rated for 90 million clicks, which should be immune to double-clicking issues and don’t require a debounce delay like mechanical switches. Making a return from previous Naga mice is the hot-swappable side panel system....

It was back in 2018 when Microsoft was awarded a $480 million contract to provide the US Army with HoloLens-based augmented reality headsets. The agreement was expanded in March 2021, ensuring Microsoft will provide finalized production versions, parts, and support in a deal potentially worth up to $21.9 billion across a decade. The Army ordered an initial 5,000 units, valued at $373 million, with around 121,000 to be delivered over the course of the deal....
