Intel introduced its mobile Arc Alchemist GPUs in March, but it has yet to flood the market with millions of them as it promised in January. Raja Koduri, who is SVP of Intel’s architecture, graphics, and software (IAGS) division, said Intel was gearing up to solve the graphics card crisis. However, only a couple of its discrete GPUs can be found in a few laptops sold by Samsung in South Korea....
The x264 HD Benchmark 3.0 results have the Core i7-3960X performing 19% faster than the Core i7-2600K on the first pass and 46% faster for the second pass. On our TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress test the Core i7-3960X took just 5 minutes and 32 seconds to complete the conversion. It is worth noting that the Core i7-3960X was so fast here the mechanical hard drive couldn’t keep up. We went back and performed the same test using a 7200-RPM just for interest’s sake and found that the Core i7-3960X was 30 seconds slower as the hard drive had to catch up....
The NUC6i7KYK’s memory performance landed below the Asrock DeskMini at 24.1GB/s, which is comparable performance to the MSI Cubi 2 Plus using the Core i3-6100T processor. Memory bandwidth performance might be a bit lower than we were expecting but the cache performance is right up there. The Core i7-6770HQ processor of the NUC6i7KYK managed to slightly outpace the desktop Core i5-6500.
The SSD 510 120GB was 30% faster than its larger cousin, the SSD 320 300GB, while it was 31% quicker than the Crucial RealSSD C300 256GB. The program copy test is comprised of many small non-compressed files (6104 files totaling 2.75GB). The Intel SSD 510 120GB was less impressive here, outpacing the SSD 320 300GB by a measly 1% with a throughput of 132.5MB/s. More importantly, it was 32% slower than the Vertex 3....
Last year when we reviewed the EVGA Z97 FTW the board was found to offer few features compared to the competition and was merely a clone of the Z87 FTW that came before it. Thankfully the Z170 FTW is a little more impressive and finally users can install an M.2 SSD on a mid-range EVGA motherboard. There are four full length PCIe x16 slots found on the Z170 FTW, the first is wired for full x16 bandwidth, the second x8, the third x4 and finally the last is wired for just x1 bandwidth....
According to Nikkei Asia, Intel plans to raise prices on flagship products such as consumer and server CPUs, Wi-Fi chips, and controllers this autumn. It’s expected that the hikes will vary based on the item, ranging from single-digit increases all the way up to 20%. Intel’s move is reportedly due to rising costs of commodities, materials, shipping and labor. There’s also the issue of rising inflation that is making consumers think twice before splashing out on expensive, non-essential purchases....

While Kingston has been content with Toshiba’s controllers, it seems like everyone else jumped aboard the SandForce express. The SandForce SF-1200 (1222) controller was a big hit, with the shortlist of SSDs using it includes the ADATA S599, Corsair Force, G.Skill Phoenix, Mushkin Callisto, OCZ Vertex 2, Super Talent FT, Patriot Inferno, and Team Group Xtreem-S1. There were many others, but you get the point. Furthermore, manufacturers didn’t stop at a single SF-1200-based SSD....
When it comes to typing on portable tablet keyboards, the bar has been set pretty low save Microsoft’s TypeCover keyboard (I haven’t used the TouchCover, though) for Surface. However, the EBK-209A seems like one of the most solid options out there in this niche; in fact, it even bests many laptop keyboards I’ve used (and I’ve used many). Its chiclet style keys are surprisingly firm and responsive, particularly so given the device’s shallow depth and its membrane-based inner workings....
The G5 includes Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 over USB Type-C, which makes this phone charge extremely quickly as you’ll note from the charts above. However there is no wireless charging, which is disappointing considering the G4 supported Qi charging through a case.
The demonstration represents a significant jump over LG’s last public test in August 2021 when it proved it could transfer 6G THz data outdoors over a distance of 100 meters. To circumvent the relatively short range of 6G, LG, Fraunhofer HHI, and Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) co-developed a power amplifier that increases transmission strength and a low-noise receiver to improve the incoming signal quality. The multi-channel power amplifier LG used in the most recent test had an output of more than 20dBm, much higher than the ~5dBm amp used in the previous demo....
The LG network storage manager isn’t the most powerful software we’ve found on a NAS, but it’s a smooth implementation nonetheless. To locate the N2A2 you have to run detection software which finds the device and provides a few options. You can manually configure the network settings or simply leave DHCP enabled as we did. The software also gives access to the storage manager via a web browser or the ability to browse files and folders....
Most John Wick fans have no problem agreeing that his vengeance-fueled reaction was completely justified. It’s a simple fact of life: you don’t mess with someone’s dog, let alone a puppy. Since the first film’s release in 2014, the John Wick franchise has successfully delivered three films, is slated to deliver two more, and even spawned a well-received action-strategy game from developer Bithell Games in 2020. According to a recent IndieWire article and Lionsgate earning call, CEO Jon Feltheimer told investors the company is once again looking to expand the franchise and is actively entertaining proposals for a new John Wick-based AAA game....
Logitech’s G25 intrigued many when it arrived eight years ago with a 270mm leather-wrapped steering wheel, a set of stainless steel pedals and a separate shifter unit for $300. Three years later, the company replaced that model with the G27, which was based on the G25 but brought new features such as the use of helical gearing instead of straight gears, resulting in less noise and better steering response. Fast forward another five years and the G27 is still popular today as the racing package can be had for as little as $250, which is a bargain for a decent racing setup....
At 1680x1050 the Radeon HD 5970 was the fastest single graphics card we tested delivering 108fps, however it was closely followed by the GeForce GTX 480 which produced an impressive 105fps. Given that an average of 30fps is required to play Mafia II these high-end cards are well in the clear. The Radeon HD 5870 was 14% slower than the GeForce GTX 480 with an average of 90fps. The Radeon HD 5850 managed 78fps which made it 3% faster than the GeForce GTX 470 which rendered 76fps....
Given what we saw at the previously tested resolutions, it’s no surprise that even the GTX 980 Ti can’t deliver playable performance at 4K. Here we see an average of just 28fps with a minimum of 24fps. Moreover, the GTX 1080 just gets by with a 38fps average and a 33fps minimum while the GTX 1080 Ti delivered just 13% more performance, though the gains were noticeable here.
On Tuesday, Maxis confirmed it is actively developing The Sims 5. Codenamed Project Rene, the game is in the early development stages. However, Maxis has enough of it working that it was able to demonstrate collaborative gameplay at The Sims Summit 2022 (below). Vice President of Franchise Creative Lyndsay Pearson said the team is working on evolving the way that Sims (the little simulated people that live in your computer screen) “think” and “act” in the game....
Starting with the negatives, it’s disappointing that Meizu hasn’t optimized this device particularly well. Multi-tasking and app launching performance suffers from a lack of available RAM, which makes the handset feel slower to use than the Moto G 2015. With better RAM management, or perhaps with 3 GB of RAM like you get in the more expensive 32 GB model, these issues could easily be alleviated. Unfortunately, the model with 3 GB of RAM costs $220, which is 30 percent more than the base model and hurts the otherwise great value proposition of the m3 Note....
