As I’ve stated in previous reviews, Sprint’s network is not very good in my area, so slow download speeds are an unfortunate reality until the Now Network manages to deliver 4G LTE to the New York City metro area. Network performance and data speeds will vary by area. Likewise, phone call quality will also vary by network and region, but I had no complaints on any phone call. Both ends of the conversation were static free and the speaker mode was at an acceptable volume....

Samsung was supposed to announce the Exynos 2200 SoC for smartphones on January 11, but for reasons we have yet to learn, it chose to postpone it to this week. Even so, the company did so much more quietly than expected for such a hyped chipset that was supposed to revolutionize smartphone gaming. At the heart of this anticipated mobile chipset is an 8-core CPU with one “flagship” Cortex-X2 core, three performance Cortex-A710 cores, and four energy-efficient Cortex-A510 cores....

The 850 Evo 2TB mirrored the performance of the 500GB model when comparing sequential read performance in the Atto Disk Benchmark. Again we see virtually the same performance from the 2TB 850 Evo as we did for the 500GB model, this time when measuring write performance.

The Extreme II 240GB gave strong performance in PCMark 7’s importing picture test with a throughput of 28.5MB/s, which was the same result turned in by the Kingston HyperX 3K 240GB. The Samsung SSD 830 and OCZ Vertex 4 also provided similar results, while the Vector and 840 Pro were slightly faster. SanDisk’s new arrival managed 22.9MB/s in the video editing test, placing it just 1MB/s off the leader alongside the 840 Pro, HyperX and Intel SSD 510 Series....

Time-triggered Ethernet is a system that allows mission-critical devices, like flight controllers, to run on the same networking hardware as non-essential systems, like passenger WiFi. The TTE protocol came about because of the need for cost-effective and efficient ways to share network resources rather than having two entirely separate systems. The protocol has worked fine for over 10 years in keeping the two types of traffic segregated. However, researchers developed an attack dubbed PCspooF that exploits a flaw in network switches....

While most would expect the RV02-E to cost a tad more than the original RV01, this is not the case. At $180 the Raven 2 Evolution is over 20% cheaper than the RV01 and that’s admittedly a more typical price for such a high-end computer case. By comparison, the Cooler Master HAF X costs $200 and the Raven 2 Evolution stacks up very well in our opinion. That’s saying a lot considering the HAF X is one of our favorite full tower chassis....

Amazingly, the Raven 3 offers these improvements at a discount as retailers are selling the latest version for $160, 11% cheaper than the Raven 2 Evolution. This price places the Raven 3 alongside the likes of the Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced, Thermaltake Element V Black Edition, Antec DF-85 Black and Antec Twelve Hundred. In our opinion, the HAF 932 Advanced is the only case that really challenges the value of the Raven 3, but they are ultimately two very different products....

Testing with Rise of the Tomb Raider we see an 8% reduction in performance for the 3GB model, though we should point out this places the GTX 1060 3GB on par with the Radeon R9 Nano in this title. Interestingly, the margin is reduced at 1440p as the 3GB model is just 7% slower now with an average of 53fps. The minimum frame rate was also reduced by just 6%....

The Samsung S3C29RBB01-YK40 controller chip is utilized by the Corsair Performance Series, which is accompanied by a large 128MB cache intended to improve small write performance and eliminate any ‘stuttering’ issues. The Indilinx Barefoot controller featured on SSDs such as the OCZ Vertex, features a smaller 64MB cache. Corsair claims that the Performance Series has a MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) of 1.0 million hours. The original Sonic the Hedgehog generated $58 million domestically at the box office on opening weekend when it premiered in early 2020 right before the pandemic started shutting everything down. The haul set a new high mark for a film based on a video game, a category that studios have historically struggled with. The record would stand until this past weekend when Sonic 2 took the crown. In the grand scheme of things, Sonic 2’s strong opening weekend is proof positive that things may finally be getting back to normal....

Sony has confirmed that its PlayStation VR2 headset will arrive in early 2023, or more than six years after its predecessor hit the scene. The confirmation was delivered via the official PlayStation Instagram and was accompanied by a photo of the next-gen hardware. Unfortunately, that’s all Sony has to say on the subject for now. A revised VR headset has been a long time coming. The original debuted in October 2016 for the PlayStation 4 and is forward compatible with the PS5....

As a quick refresher on the Snapdragon 820, it’s an ARMv8-A processor built on a 14nm FinFET process, with a quad-core CPU design. All four cores use Qualcomm’s proprietary Kryo architecture; two are clocked at 2.15 GHz, and the other two at 1.59 GHz. There’s also an Adreno 530 GPU at 624 MHz, a Hexagon 680 DSP at 1 GHz, and a 64-bit LPDDR4 memory controller at 29.8 GB/s....

This week, Valve released a new update for the Steam Deck’s OS with several new features and fixes. Most notably, players can now create profiles telling the system to perform differently with each game. This should help users optimize the balance between a smooth experience and acceptable battery life, which won’t be identical for all games. Steam Deck owners would obviously expect to manage graphics settings in games. However, the device also lets players change some system-wide settings like resolution, framerate, brightness, processor clock speed, and TDP (Thermal Design Power), as the video above shows....

Streaming represented 34.8 percent of total television consumption last month, narrowly edging out cable’s 34.4 percent share. Broadcast viewing accounted for 21.6 percent of the pie. Streaming usage grew 3.2 percent from June and a whopping 22.6 percent year over year. Cable usage dropped two percent from June and 8.9 percent on a year-over-year basis, while broadcast volume dipped 3.7 percent compared to the previous month and 9.8 percent versus July 2021....

Tesla EVs have recorded 360-degree video of outside activity whenever they detect threats since the company introduced “sentry mode” in 2019. Since last fall, owners with a premium subscription can live stream from the cameras. Those cameras have reportedly caught people damaging the vehicles and one person who inexplicably unplugged someone’s Tesla from a charging station. Attorney Daniel Meier says that Tesla cameras are legally similar to doorbell cameras – their recordings are admissible in court....

Reuters writes that the employees from its Sparks, Nevada, Gigafactory filed the suit in Texas on Sunday. It states that 500 employees were terminated from the factory without giving a 60-day notice period—a violation of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. John Lynch and Daxton Hartsfield, who had worked at the plant for around five years, were among the those let go from the factory this month, according to the suit....
