We began by installing the heatsink’s CPU bracket to the back of the Asrock 890FX Deluxe4. Given the massive hole in the motherboard tray, forgetting this step wouldn’t be a big deal. Using an intelligent tool-less design, the dual 5.25" drive bays offer an ultra-quick and reliable way to install and remove devices. While the majority of the tool-less designs we’ve used are clumsy and impractical, this design actually works very well. The 3.5" drive cage supports three drives and features quick release cradles that support both 3.5" and 2.5" drives. Given the relative rarity of high-capacity 1.8" SSDs and the m4’s solid track record, Crucial could have likely gotten away with charging a slight premium over its 2.5" iteration. Currently, it seems the 1.8" m4’s primary competition comes from SandForce SF-2281-based drives such as the Mushkin Direct Atlas Deluxe mSATA 240GB, which costs slightly more at $230. With high marks in both price and performance, the m4’s reliability is the only factor that remains unaddressed, and in my opinion, Crucial also scores very highly here....
We cannot say with certainty that the performance we’ve seen today will align with what we find in roughly a month’s time, but we can tell the graphics we saw were amazingly detailed and performance output from current generation GPUs was quite satisfactory. Many of the graphics cards we tested performed within a few frames per second of their Crysis Warhead result. Could this just be a coincidence? Graphics cards such as the GeForce GTX 560 Ti and Radeon HD 6870 were able to play the game smoothly at resolutions up to 1920x1200....

Ripple Effect is a studio that helps DICE with expansions and game modes. Ripple’s Senior Designer Justin Wiebe explained that they removed Zombie Survival and replaced it with a “Gun Game” mode because it borked the game’s progression system. Evidently, the zombie addon wasn’t grindy enough because it awarded too much experience. Wiebe was vague about when or if the zombie mode would return, saying only, “Hopefully, we can fix it in the future and keep it in alignment with standard game progression....
Earlier this year we got word that AMD were exploring the possibility of expanding support for Ryzen 5000 series processors to 300-series motherboards, which was exciting news for those of you still rocking a B350 or X370 motherboard, especially if it was a high-end board as having to spend more money on a 400 or 500-series board just to snag an affordable part like the Ryzen 5 5600 isn’t all that appealing....

A single Radeon HD 6970 averaged just 44fps at this relatively low resolution, while the HD 6950 was only slightly slower with 40fps, both cards provided very playable performance. The older Radeon HD 5870 also held its own with 37fps. With the latest drivers Nvidia has overcome any initial issues and the GeForce GTX 580 now performs as expected, leading the pack just below the dual-GPU Radeon HD 6990, scoring 45fps....
I had to rub my eyes a few times after seeing the power meter display just four watts at idle – six times more efficient than the Celeron J1800 on the Asrock D1800M motherboard. With 100% load on both cores the power consumption amazingly only increased from four to six watts, nearly five times less power than the Celeron J1800 system consumed, a truly phenomenal result. Now with both the CPU cores at 100% load as well as the GPU the maximum amount of power we were able to consume when using the Liva was just 10 watts, which is a little over three times less than the Celeron J1800 system....
