It’s possible to use Link Aggregation on several ports, so if a NAS device has four ports, it’s possible to create a pair of aggregated ports. However, this presents a problem as it occupies many ports on the switch and any one connection is still limited to Gigabit speeds. As a result, we’ve started seeing high-end business-oriented NAS devices that provide optional 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) support. First seen over a decade ago, 10GbE is not a new technology, but it’s been largely reserved for pricey enterprise devices....

Testing with F1 2106 reveals competitive performance, though the GTX 1050 was again able to take the lead, delivering 4% more frames at 1080p using the high quality preset. Still both GPUs averaged over 60fps for a perfectly playable and very smooth experience. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was tested using the medium quality preset and even so these entry-level gamers only spat out 41fps on average with a 33fps minimum....

Following approval by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), NuScale plans to build an SMR plant at the Idaho National Laboratory. The company says its six-reactor, 462 megawatt Carbon Free Power Project should be operational by 2030. SMRs typically generate 300–500 megawatts (MW) of electric power, though some produce less than 100MW. While any nuclear reactor will raise concerns among the general public, these plants are said to pose far less risk than traditional facilities due to their scale, simple design, and the inherent safety characteristics of the reactor....

With all its bells and whistles turned on, Thief is very demanding, even at relatively low resolutions such as 1680x1050. It takes a GeForce GTX 780 or Radeon R9 290 to break an average of 60fps while the HD 7970 GHz Edition and GTX 770 both fell short by 1-3fps. Thief plays well with an average of 50fps though gamers will still want an HD 7950 Boost or GTX 680....

A city full of closed doors and dead ends, boxed in and lined with nothing but rough edges: That’s Thief. It’s hard to know quite where to begin with a shambling mediocrity such as this. It’s a game that could have been great and is instead a lumpy, frumpy disappointment, outclassed on all sides by its contemporaries and struggling mightily for a foothold in a world that’s moved on to better things....

For Nintendo Switch owners, there are few problems bigger than the dreaded Joy-Con drift, also known as “phantom input.” The Japanese gaming giant has sold more than 114 million Switch handhelds over the past six years and is fighting several class action lawsuits over a problem that’s plaguing pretty much all modern gaming controllers. Despite the resounding success of the Switch gamble, Nintendo only made a minor revision to the device in the form of the Switch OLED and a more portable version called the Switch Lite....

That said, when maxed out, Titanfall 2 played nicely with relatively inexpensive gear. Entry-level GPUs such as the RX 460 and GTX 1050 provided playable frame rates at 1080p, while previous generation mid-range GPUs had no trouble at all. Likewise, latest generation GPUs such as the RX 480 and GTX 1060 handled the game well even at 1440p. As you’d expect, 4K gaming requires some serious graphics power and ideally gamers will want nothing less than the GTX 1080 while the Pascal Titan X fits the bill nicely, providing you have a few stacks of cash to spare....

We haven’t heard back from the green team on that one, but we have to say it’s great to see such spirited competition as it’s usually customers that reap the benefits. That’s especially true today as mainstream cards are getting more and more powerful and even a $100 product is capable of far more than you may give it credit for. So, while AMD and Nvidia settle the score at the super expensive enthusiast level, we actually want to have a look at what’s been happening elsewhere....

Although my limited hands-on time with the G633 and G933 were positive, I’m standing by for our G933 review unit before casting final judgement. There are glimmers of great potential here, but important items like microphone and noise-cancellation quality, wireless reliability, battery life, wireless range and performance, durability and the practicality of some of its features have yet been fully explored. If nothing else though, the G933 should prove to be one heck of an upgrade from its the predecessor, the G930....

According to DigiTimes, TSMC intends to sell its 3nm N3 semiconductors for $20,000 per wafer. Contract prices for larger companies like Apple, Intel, or Nvidia will likely be lower, but these increased costs will probably filter down to consumers regardless. DigiTimes has charted the history of wafer prices, starting with TSMC’s 90nm process in 2004, which cost a tenth of the N3 wafers at $2,000. Estimates indicate N3 wafer costs will rise 25 percent over TSMC’s 5nm N5 process, which was around $16,000 per wafer....

The SATA SSDs are limited to less than 550MB/s when measuring sequential read performance while the Plextor PX-G512M6e was able to reach 689MB/s. The PCIe SSDs more than doubled the bandwidth of the SATA models as the G.Skill Phoenix Blade and Kingston Predator just fell short of 1.4GB/s. Meanwhile, the Intel SSD 750 Series broke through the 1.5GB/s barrier while the Samsung SM951 reached 1.67GB/s. The sequential write results told a similar story and this time the SATA SSDs were limited to around 500MB/s....

The crypto market isn’t showing any signs of improving, barring a temporary uptick over the weekend that saw markets briefly pass $1 trillion. That’s bad news for investors, crypto companies, and North Korea but good news for those looking to buy a used graphics card, especially as Ethereum’s upcoming switch from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake, aka The Merge, is going to push prices down even further. Bloomberg estimates that more than a third of the consumer graphics card market could vanish as cryptominers decide that their money-making hobby just isn’t worth it anymore....

The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA), has just announced a new certification program to make it easier for consumers to choose a suitable variable refresh rate (VRR) display. The new standard will join others implemented by the organization, including Displayport, display mount, and the DisplayHDR certifications. Variable refresh rate is a technology that allows displays to change refresh rates on the fly between a specific range, eliminating stutter and tearing....

Despite its poor file copy performance, the Black2’s SSD outpaced the Agility 4 with 431MB/s, which was also several times faster than the HDD portion’s 115MB/s – yet again the slowest drive we tested. While the Black2’s SSD kept up with current generation rivals in the sequential read test, it’s a different story when measuring write performance. The flash portion only offered 146MB/s, which was even slower than the WD Black 4TB and Velociraptor 1TB disk drives....

After installing the major OS update that Microsoft rolled out this month, Windows 11 users should find a list called “Your Subscriptions” under Settings > Accounts > Your Microsoft Account. As PCWorld notes, the page tells users where and how a subscription is billed, who it’s being shared with, and provides information about OneDrive cloud storage. The only subscription that appears on the main dashboard right now is 365....

Those who play Wordle daily might have noticed that going to the game’s website now redirects them to The New York Times. Even the Wordle logo is in the newspaper’s font now. It’s supposed to be a smooth transition, but there have been some hiccups along the way. A confirmed glitch that occurred during the transfer reset the guesses of users for that day’s puzzle. So users who failed to solve in the morning got another chance after The Times took over, and those who already knew the answer got a free win....
