As we found when testing the beta, it doesn’t take much GPU power to deliver silky smooth gameplay as the GTX 660 Ti and R9 270X both broke 60fps while the R7 260X and GTX 750 Ti were good for over 40fps.
DLSS finally made its way to both Battlefield V and Metro Exodus this month, and as is the usual case for us, we’ll be going through a full visual and performance breakdown in this article. For now we’re sticking with Battlefield V in this investigation because according both Nvidia and developer 4A Games have said the DLSS implementation in Metro Exodus still needs some polish. When we looked at DLSS back in September, there were only two demos Nvidia had for the launch of their RTX GPUs....
Compared to the Core i5-12600K, the four E-cores are gone, the L3 cache is reduced from 20 MB to 18 MB, the turbo clock speed has been wound down by 10%, and the base power has been slashed from 125 watts to just 65 watts. That doesn’t sound so appealing… but what makes the i5-12400 so exciting is the price. While you can expect to pay around $300 to the 12600K, which is the same price of AMD’s Ryzen 5 5600X, the i5-12400 is just $210, with the F-SKU coming in at just $180....
We were able to enable PhysX on all graphics cards by editing the WillowEngine.ini and setting the PhysX level to 2. As far as we could tell the Radeon HD 7970 and GeForce GTX 680 look the same with PhysX set to high but admittedly we have not played a great deal of the game and ave only use a few guns. However the cloth effects and rock debris effects from shooting stuff with the Gearbox Rifle look the same....
Compared to the high quality results with Tessellation disabled and 4xMSAA enabled, the GeForce GTX 285 was just 7% faster, while the Radeon HD 5670 experienced a much healthier 27% jump.
The exchange announced plans to open a peer-to-peer NFT marketplace back in October. Like it did with crypto, Coinbase wants to help make NFTs easier to mint, purchase, showcase and discover. The company said the initial launch will support Ethereum based ERC-721 and ERC-1155 standards with multi-chain support planned shortly after. Reducing friction in the marketplace is a surefire way to attract more interest from consumers. Project Cars 2 is a new racing simulator that is quite CPU demanding. Overclocking Ryzen only boosted the average frame rate by 6% and this meant the R5 1600 was still 15% slower than the Core i5-8400 at 720p. Moving to 1080p reduces this margin to just 9%, here the R5 1600 was good for 115fps on average while the 8400 managed 127fps. Finally at 1440p we end up with the same 100fps average and 84fps minimum for the R5 1600 and 8400....
Hitman is a game that has proven to be quite demanding and can take advantage of 6-core CPUs. That said, the 7700K is by far the more superior CPU in this title offering 30% more performance than the 7800X. Interestingly, once again overclocking the 7800X doesn’t really help close up the gap and we weren’t seeing any kind of throttling issues here either. Quantum Break is another primarily GPU bound title, but so is Far Cry Primal and we saw some odd results there....

As interesting as the idea is, I found that the way it was implemented was a bit gimmicky and impractical for the average user....
During December, the number of survey participants with an RTX 3060 in their PCs increased by 0.57%, more than any other GPU on the list. The Ti version of that card was up 0.30%, while the RTX 3070 saw gains of 14%. It seems some people can find/afford Nvidia’s most recent graphics cards, though they may be buying them from eBay. TrendForce (paywalled, via The Wall Street Journal) said the average contract price of DRAM fell by 10.6 percent in the second quarter compared to the same period a year earlier. According to the market research firm, it’s the first year-over-year decline in two years. Further declines are expected in the coming months. DRAM pricing peaked in the fall of 2021 as demand for consumer electronics spiked, largely due to the work from home trend....
The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) recently released a stark warning for companies and organizations looking to deploy AI-based emotion analysis technologies. These systems don’t seem to work yet and could potentially never function accurately. Deputy Commissioner Stephen Bonner said machine learning algorithms that identify and distinguish people’s moods are “immature.” He said the risks brought by this kind of tech are greater than the possible benefits. “Emotional” AI is a concern for the ICO because there is currently no system developed in a way that satisfies data protection requirements, fairness, and transparency....

The suit, filed in 2015, alleged that Facebook’s retired photo-tagging feature violated Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), which forbids the collection of identifiable biometric data without a person’s explicit consent. This includes the likes of fingerprints, retina scans, and facial geometry. Facebook’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit was rejected in May 2016, and US District Judge James Donato ruled that it could proceed with class-action status in 2018. Despite Facebook succeeding in its request to move the case from Illinois to San Francisco, repeated further appeals to have it dismissed failed....
As expected, the GTX 980 delivered the strongest performance with 84fps at 1680x1050, though we didn’t expect to see the R9 290X just 2fps slower or the R9 290 beating the GTX 970 by 4fps. More troubling is the fact that the old HD 7970 GHz Edition was 1fps faster than the GTX 970 while the R9 280X was also faster than the GTX 780 Ti, which just doesn’t/shouldn’t happen....
A teaser video demonstrates the headlights projecting information like speed limits, navigation-based turn arrows and weather conditions as well as a warning about an upcoming roundabout. Another possibility could see the headlights paint a path to ensure cyclists are passed at a safe distance. The tech could even help drivers nail a tough parking job by projecting the correct driving line to take, or highlight the width of the vehicle to help determine if it can fit in a gap or parking space....
Starting in February 2022, Four Day Week Global (4DWG) initiated trials with dozens of companies and hundreds of employees across the US, Ireland and a few other countries to test a four-day work week. To participate, companies had to promise not to reduce pay and to enact meaningful work time reduction. Most opted for a four day, 32-hour schedule with Friday off. 4DWG said 18 companies will definitely be continuing with the four-day work week and that an additional seven are planning to continue but haven’t made a final decision yet....
