Using the new Futuremark 3Dmark 11 benchmark program we found that the new Radeon HD 6970 was 7% faster than the GeForce GTX 570 when running the extreme test. Should this be the case when running actual games this could be very good news for AMD. The same test also reported that the Radeon HD 6970 was 7% slower than the GeForce GTX 580 and 27% slower than the HD 5970 while it was 16% faster than the HD 5870....
At 1920x1200, the HD 7770 felt an 85% bump in Crossfire, enough to overcome the HD 6870 by 31% and GTX 560 Ti by 29%. The dual HD 7750s outpaced the same cards by 9% and 7%. Dirt 3 seems to favor GeForce solutions, so the Crossfired HD 7770 was only 13% faster than the GTX 560 Ti yet 57% faster than the HD 6870. Similarly, the HD 7750s were 15% slower than the GTX 560 Ti and 18% faster than the HD 6870....
Meet the new Ryzen 3 3100, set to cost just $100, it features 4 cores, 8 threads and clocks between 3.6 and 3.9 GHz depending on the workload. For such an affordable processor it also features a rather large 18MB of cache. This part is rated for a 65 watt TDP and so you get the Wraith Stealth cooler, a nice addition at this price point. Then we have the Ryzen 3 3300X which costs $120....
When testing with Rise of the Tomb Raider, the R5 1600 is 12% slower than the 7800X. I’m looking at the average frame rate since the minimums are identical. However, once overclocked the R5 1600 was just 1.5% slower on average but 12% faster for the minimum, so that’s an interesting result indeed. Again these figures are based on a three run average and the Ryzen CPU was consistently faster for the minimum....

The launch of the AM5 socket will, like Intel’s Alder Lake, bring support for both DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0. But unlike team blue, which offers the option of 600-series motherboards that support either DDR4 or DDR5, long-running rumors suggest AMD might limit buyers of Ryzen 7000 CPUs to the latter. Backing up those claims is a new report from Tom’s Hardware, whose sources say X670 and B650 motherboards have no provisions for DDR4 support....
Under load the lowest result was 195 watts from the Asrock 880GMH/USB3 and the highest was the 205 watts of the MSI 870A-G54. Considering the kind of performance we saw from the unlocked Phenom II X2 555, these consumption levels are very reasonable.

On Thursday, Apple announced that it would allow South Korean app makers to use third-party payment platforms. The move complies with recently introduced and quickly passed legislation in the country. Google also changed its payment guidelines after Korean officials passed the law last November. AI-powered content-generating tools have seen their popularity explode in recent months, but it hasn’t stopped the controversy that surrounds them. That’s been especially true of systems that create art. The problem was highlighted last September when the Colorado State Fair’s contest for emerging digital artists was by Jason M. Allen, who created his entry using Midjourney. Midjourney and Stable Diffusion are trained on billions of images. In the case of the latter, it uses selected datasets from the LAION-5B project, a collection of 5 billion images and associated descriptive captions created by a German-based research non-profit....
In our tests, we found it to be on par with the Core i3-6100T-equipped MSI Cubi 2 Plus, a mini PC we recently praised for its excellent performance. Purely from a performance/form factor standpoint, the Beebox-S is superior to the Cubi 2 Plus in the sense that it’s half the size but delivers the same performance and supports the same degree of hardware. Currently selling for $320 on Newegg, the Beebox-S 6200 is a considerably more attractive product than we initially thought (we were told it’d likely command a $400 price tag)....
According to 3Dmark Vantage, the GeForce GTX 580 is 39% faster than the GeForce GTX 480 at 2560x1600, a considerable increase in performance. That said, the same benchmark believes the Radeon HD 5870 is 4% faster than the GeForce GTX 480, so we’ll take its findings with grain of salt.
Considering the most expensive Asus 790GX motherboard is currently the M4A78T-E ($140) we expect this new version that adds USB 3.0 will fetch a premium. That said, AMD claims that the average 890GX motherboard will cost just $110 at launch. While that remains to be seen, at that price point AMD could offer a better value than the Intel H57 and P55 motherboards. As mentioned before, the 10-phase CPU VRM on the M4A89GTD Pro gives this motherboard future support for AMD Phenom II X6 hexacore processors that will carry a 140W TDP....
Graphical grunt comes from the GeForce RTX 3080 with 6,144 CUDA cores and 16GB of memory, and we’re always pleased to see an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX - in previous tests, it’s been the most powerful laptop processor money can buy. Elsewhere, the Asus serves up a 360Hz display and loads of RGB LEDs. This kind of gaming hardware doesn’t come cheap, though - the ROG Strix model we tested costs a whopping $2,999....
Finally we have Wolfenstein, which was tested using best visual quality settings with the exception off AA/AF which were disabled. At 1440x900 we got about 20fps, making the Radeon HD 5450 roughly 41% slower than the Radeon HD 4650.
The budget models had to wait a bit longer. Just last week we took a look at AMD’s latest GPU entry and their most affordable Radeon HD 5000 series graphics card yet. The Radeon HD 5450 is available already for $45-60, aiming to replace the HD 4350 which currently retails for as little as $35. As we quickly discovered, you shouldn’t expect to play graphically intensive games with a card in this price point....
In The Last Remnant, our last test using the Unreal Engine 3, we see a decent performance margin favoring the Radeon HD 5970 when compared to the Radeon HD 5870. At 2560x1600 the card was 58% faster than the Radeon HD 5870, while it also managed to edge out the GeForce GTX 295 by a 15% margin.
Unfortunately, the in-game benchmark doesn’t accurately reflect gameplay after all – at least not all the gameplay. Performance slipped heavily once Batman fired up his Batmobile in our Fraps testing. We believe the in-game benchmark reflects how the game should perform once it’s fixed, but due to poor optimization there are parts of the game that take a serious amount of rendering power to deliver barely playable performance. As advertised, Batman: Arkham Knight is extremely demanding on VRAM....
Dual Radeon HD 6970 and GeForce GTX 580 SLI boards delivered virtually the same performance. Both managed to crack the 80fps barrier, with neither dipping below 60fps for the minimum.
