Last night, the NBA became the first organization to broadcast an entire game in a format it calls “NBA CourtView” or “Netaverse.” The latter nickname plays off the term metaverse because it delivers content in a virtual 3D environment, but its technically called volumetric video. The tech used is not new. It’s previously been used to allow commentators to outline and explain singular replays, but this was the first time the NBA used it to broadcast an entire game....

Mass Effect Andromeda shows us what we’ve seen a number of times already, Vega 56 is roughly on par with the GTX 1070 while Vega 64 needs to be liquid cooled to catch, or at least come close to catching the GTX 1080. Another average result here for AMD. Moving on we have Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and for this one Vega looks quite competitive. The air-cooled Vega 64 model is still quite underwhelming but I was impressed with what the liquid cooled version pulled out this time....

Thanko recently unveiled the TL (Timeline) Portrait Display. At ￥11,200 (about $100), it’s a 7.9" 70 x 208mm screen that connects to a PC or laptop through HDMI and gets power through micro USB. In November, Elsonic’s EK-MD088 appeared with a similar shape and purpose—shifting social media feeds to a cheap second screen. According to those reports, Elsonic’s screen should be going on sale right around now, just as a competitor appears....

Topi Tjukanov’s project utilizes a cross-verified database of notable people to showcase the birthplaces of public figures. The developer modified the data to only show one person from each unique geographic location with the highest notability rank, meaning if there is more than one famous person from a particular town, it’ll only show the most well-known person. Tjukanov said the application also uses a rank value and a notability “sum value” to determine how big names are shown on the map....

For those who aren’t familiar with Atmosphere, it’s a streaming TV service for businesses, providing customers with original and custom TV channels for their spaces. Atmosphere currently has over 19,000 customers, including Taco Bell, Texas Roadhouse, Burger King and Westin, amassing over 20 million unique users per month. The service offers multiple channels such as RedBull TV, X Games, Nitro Circus TV, and numerous other lifestyle, cars, kids, sports and niche broadcasting channels....

Today we’ll be looking at three mice that aren’t necessarily as high-end or feature-packed as some we have previously tested. These wireless mice are smaller and simpler in what they entail, yet they all feature one distinct characteristic - touch sensitivity. Meet the contenders: Microsoft’s Arc Touch, Mad Catz’s Eclipse touchmouse, and SpeedLink’s Cue Wireless Multitouch. Although all three could easily be used as full-time desktop mice, I suspect most would categorize them as on-the-go laptop companions based on their small footprint and wireless connectivity....

Jumping 30% from 3.50GHz to 4.50GHz we saw a 10% increase in frame rate, which is fairly substantial. Strangely, while the i7-2600K got faster as we overclocked it this was not the case with the FX-8150....

The SSU writes that the farm’s goal was to discredit Ukraine’s leadership and destabilize the country’s social and political situation. The group that created it, which the SSU has now dismantled, spread disinformation on the internet, some of which related to the activities of the country’s top military and political leadership. The farm, operating secretly in the capital of Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Vinnytsia, ran over one million bot accounts and several groups on social media networks with an audience of almost 400,000 people....

Following a barrage of economic and financial sanctions from several countries, Ukraine has now called on the private sector to do its part — starting with tech giant Apple. On Friday, Mykhailo Fedorov, the Ukrainian minister of digital transformation, tweeted, “I’ve contacted Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, to block the Apple Store for citizens of the Russian Federation, and to support the package of US government sanctions!” The tweet included a letter addressed directly to Tim Cook from the Ukrainian government....

After modders added FSR 2.0 to Cyberpunk 2077 by replacing the game’s DLSS implementation, they theorized the same was possible for any recent title that includes DLSS. That theory is now bearing out, with AMD’s upscaler working in Death Stranding, Red Dead Redemption 2, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Metro Exodus: Enhanced Edition, Dying Light 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Control. Currently, the mod needs to be customized for each game, but the builders of the Cyberpunk version are developing a universal mod....

On Tuesday, at least two Reddit users demonstrated drift in the Steam Deck’s right joystick. Both posted videos showing the system’s controller input testing screen registering input while the thumbstick isn’t moving. Drifting starts after the stick is moved and reset to the neutral position. It ceases when it is moved again. Two cases among the many Steam Decks in the wild don’t signify a trend, but it isn’t a good sign the ailment is showing up soon after launch....

Reasons include changes in how viewers process information, what people are watching, and shifts in audio design. Translators and captioners are acutely feeling the effects. A Sunday piece from the Telegraph is the latest to highlight the trend, pinning it on Generation Z. It references last November’s study from Stagetext and Sapio Research suggesting most viewers aged 18-25 turn on subtitles some or all of the time....

Game developer and tech enthusiast James Howard has put the finishing touches on a Wolfenstein 3D demake, and you can grab it now over on GitHub. Supported video modes include four-color RGB with red or magenta palettes, composite CGA mode for cards that support NTSC color output, an experimental Tandy 160 x 200 16-color mode, a monochrome mode with inverted colors and a 640 x 200 option for machines with widescreens like Palmtops....

Perhaps this unpolished multiplayer gameplay explains a few of the performance issues we encountered. Although it’s very possible that the next batch of ATI and Nvidia drivers will solve many of these issues, we feel id still has some work ahead of them. The extreme contrast issue that we experienced with ATI cards will likely be corrected with the next driver set. That said, it could also be Nvidia not displaying the game correctly and we are only putting ATI at fault here because we prefer the less radiant visuals of the GeForce cards....

While the increase in battery capacity matches the increase in display size, the massive size of this battery will deliver better-than-average battery life as the power consumption of other components doesn’t increase with a larger display. In other words, the SoC will consume just as much power in the Mi Max as in five-inch phones, and there’s more battery to go around in this handset. For this reason, it didn’t surprise me that the battery life I experienced while using this phone was excellent....

Xiaomi’s implementation isn’t a direct copy of what Huawei provided earlier this year. The P9 used two 12-megapixel sensors, one full color and the other monochrome, with that monochrome sensor providing additional detail. The Redmi Pro, however, uses a main 13-megapixel sensor with an additional 5-megapixel unit providing depth data. In this respect the Redmi Pro is more closely related to the HTC One M8, which used a similar system back in 2014....

When ESO first came out, it wasn’t exactly well-received. It had its core fans, but the multiplayer features were rather buggy and unfinished and many fans didn’t find enough content variety to keep them hooked. Vast swathes of land around Tamriel weren’t yet finished, preventing players from exploring them. These days, ESO is much, much better than it was before. I’ve returned to it multiple times and enjoyed myself. I have a few complaints regarding the combat and writing (I think both are a bit dull) but, overall, it offers a massive world to explore with plenty of compelling quests, characters, and gameplay systems to uncover....
