Zoe mode is also seen in the mini, which I had first experience with in the HTC One. Marketed as being a hugely important part of the One series’ feature set, Zoe allows you to take a four second full-resolution burst shot (with audio) of any scene, capturing one second before and three seconds after the capture button is pressed....

Huawei’s first phone of 2017 complements these past releases as well as the upcoming Huawei P10. Designed for those who prefer larger screens, the Huawei Mate 9 packs a 5.9-inch display alongside an upgraded dual camera solution and a faster SoC. There are few hardware compromises here; the Mate 9 is a showcase of what Huawei’s engineering team can accomplish. The Mate 9 borrows many design elements from the beautiful Huawei P9....

The main advantage to having a 1440p display over 1080p is in virtual reality, where you really need that extra resolution to increase sharpness and immersion. Obviously Huawei is not as concerned about VR at this stage, and they’re not a company with a dedicated VR headset for their flagship, unlike Samsung or OnePlus. I was pleased with some attributes to the Huawei P9’s display. For starters, the viewing angles from this IPS-NEO LCD are fantastic, and combined with good peak brightness, the display is easily viewable in most conditions....

Based on the Fermi third-generation Streaming Multiprocessor (SM) architecture, the GeForce GTX 480 boasts 480 CUDA cores, twice the shader power of the GT200 architecture used by the GeForce GTX 280. Not only has the number of cores doubled, but so have the number of ROP (Raster Operations) units with 48 total. 8x MSAA performance has been optimized through enhanced ROP compression and texture units are also said to have been redesigned for improved efficiency and better real-world performance....

In her efforts to develop an open source graphics driver for the M1, Alyssa Rosenzweig recently found a quirk in the render pipeline of the M1’s GPU. She was rendering increasingly complicated 3D geometries, and eventually arrived at a bunny that made the GPU bug out. Basically – and please note that this and everything else I’m about to say is an oversimplification – the problem begins with the GPU’s poor access to memory....

When Game Union TV asked Intel when Arc GPUs would be available, Intel Support initially tweeted that they would arrive before the end of Q2. Then, it revealed that Samsung models with Arc GPUs had already launched, but only in South Korea. Currently, Samsung’s Korean store has a Galaxy Book2 Pro with an A350M, the most basic Arc card. It’s likely the same laptop that leaked shortly before the supposed Arc launch date....

By now it’s no secret that Intel wants to grow its manufacturing business into one that can rival those of TSMC and Samsung. With its IDM 2.0 initiative, the company wants to make strategic changes on many different levels, from improving its process technology to building additional capacity, and using some of that capacity to serve various organizations who want to make their own custom silicon. Today, Intel announced yet another step in that direction....

Intel will provide training and create opportunities for hands-on collaboration with Intel engineers. The first Project Circuit Breaker event, codenamed Camping with Tigers, launched in December with a group of 20 researchers using Intel Core i7 processors (formerly Tiger Lake). It’ll run through May, offering participants bounty multipliers at three milestones for eligible vulnerabilities. Bug bounty programs have proven incredibly helpful to hardware and software makers as of late. In 2021, Intel said 97 of the 113 externally found vulnerabilities were reported through its bug bounty program....

The Core i7-4770K system consumed just 42 watts at idle, which is roughly the same amount as a Core i5 Ivy Bridge system and half of an AMD FX system. However when under load the consumption did climb considerably, all the way to 164 watts, which is more than that of the Core i7-3770K.

By now it’s no secret that Intel has been on a cultural transformation train under its new CEO Pat Gelsinger. The Team Blue boss is an outspoken and overly optimistic leader, and this has restored some investor confidence over the past year. With the successful launch of the company’s first Alder Lake CPUs, Gelsinger believes AMD’s Ryzen-powered conquest of the enthusiast desktop market may be coming to an end. Beyond the hype, Intel needs time to recover its chipmaking crown which could take years....

Keep in mind that the R9 280 is the previous-generation flagship and at $300 it’s not exactly budget material, suggesting it is unlikely anyone is going to pair the Pentium G3258 with a faster GPU. That being the case, in most games where the GPU is the primary limiting factor, the Pentium G3258 will work just as well as a Core i3 or even Core i5 processor. That said, an increasing amount of games require more than two cores and this is where the Pentium G3258 is going to struggle, even at 4....

AMD now claims that the fourth generation of Ryzen, launching next month, will put the final nail in Intel’s coffin: they’ll beat Intel in gaming performance. Is it possible? We’ll soon see. But such a challenge cannot go unanswered. Enter Rocket Lake. Intel’s upcoming new architecture will arrive with a smattering of new technologies. But will Rocket Lake carry Intel to new heights, or will it crash and burn? Let’s take a look at what we know so far....

When measuring the write performance the Intel SSD 520 Series 240GB maxed out a 502MB/s whereas drives such as the OCZ Vertex 3 240GB went on to reach 518MB/s making it 3% faster. It is interesting to note that the SSD 520 Series 240GB maxed out at 502MB/s for both the read and write Atto Disk Benchmark tests when working with 128K data.

The Intel 600p maxed out a 1098MB/s for the 128K test which isn’t bad but it’s a far cry from the advertised 1775MB/s throughput. Here we get another look at the Intel 600p’s spotty write performance. It’s rare that we see an SSD deliver this kind of inconsistent performance and it certainly hasn’t boded well for the 600p so far.

The Intel 600p looks decent in the CrystalDiskMark sequential read test with a throughput of 1053MB/s. Granted, that’s quite a bit slower than the advertised 1775MB/s but it is a good bit faster than the SATA SSDs. The Intel 600p looked much like a SATA SSD in the sequential write test with a throughput of just under 500MB/s, not bad given the advertised 560 MB/s write speed. When measuring random 512K read performance the Intel 600p slips well behind the other NVMe drives....

Today the company is unveiling its full new line of Core i7 and Core i5 processors, accompanying chipsets and Centrino wireless options. Ivy Bridge is a ’tick’ release, but Intel is calling it a tick+ due to the more significant overhaul the graphics side of things is getting. The new chips are set to provide 20-50% better GPU performance over Sandy Bridge, the kind of jump we’d normally expect from a tock release....

Just Cause 4 makes use of the Avalanche’s Apex game engine, though it is a newer updated version featuring diverse and extreme weather effects, including blizzards, sandstorms, tornadoes and more. The game engine has also improved physics-based rendering, a new animation system and refined AI, so NPCs can be smarter to attack and be more threatening. This all sounds great, but unfortunately the game has been received by mixed to average reviews in the few days it’s been out....

The average desktop replacement weighs 6 pounds or more, sports a Core i7 quad-core chip, at least 4GB of RAM and 500GB of storage, and tons of connectivity. Battery life is not one of their strong assets due to the large display and powerful hardware, so most of the time you’ll be looking at three hours of autonomy or even less. Laptops in this category start around $1,000 but fully-loaded models can easily fetch upwards of $2,000....

You can use Google Takeout to download a copy of your subscription info, including lists you follow, starred items and notes.
