The Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition failed to provide any improvement over the standard 7970 in Crysis 2 at 2560x1600 and as a result it was only able to match the performance of the GeForce GTX 680. When testing with Dragon Age II the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition averaged 39fps, making it just 1fps slower than the GeForce GTX 680. This meant that the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition was 8% faster than a standard 7970....
The Nano averaged 30fps in Dragon Age Inquisition at 4K, 6% slower than the Fury and 7% faster than the R9 390X and GTX 980. At 4K in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt the Nano was good for just 27fps, 4% (a single frame) slower than the Fury, 17% faster than the R9 390X and 23% faster than the GTX 980, which is surprising as we tested with HairWorks enabled....
Representing AMD we have the PowerColor Red Devil 5700 and for Nvidia we have the MSI RTX 2060 Super Gaming X. The Red Devil is a premium Radeon RX 5700 card that comes in at $390, but as we’ve already established in previous reviews, in terms of performance, it’s no faster than base model cards selling at the MSRP. The same is largely true of the Gaming X, it comes in at $430, but you’ll get very similar performance from other models sporting the same GPU....
The Ryzen 7 4800H comes configured with a default 45 W TDP rather than the lower 35 W AMD targets for their premium HS-series SKUs. However clock speeds between the 4800H and 4900HS are similar at a 3.0 GHz base and 4.3 GHz boost for the 4900HS compared to 2.9 GHz and 4.2 GHz for the 4800H. Cache size is the same at 8 MB L3, and of course, we’re getting 8 cores and 16 threads....
We’ve been trying to get one of these APUs for a while, but it hasn’t been as easy in Australia. Then a few weeks back we found an HP Pavilion desktop PC equipped with the 5700G, so we snapped one up to see what the chip can do. Other reviewers have already tested it since the chip has been easier to find in other regions, but considering we’re still 3 weeks away from the retail release, we might as well get testing....
However when it comes to decompression the AMD processors come into their own. The 2990WX is a weapon here and the 2970WX is also mighty impressive, beating the 7980XE by a 29% margin. The Microsoft Excel benchmark might be a bit redundant now as most of these high-end desktop CPUs take less than 2 seconds to complete the workload, but we have the results so why not include them. Intel does enjoy a slight performance advantage in this test but with the Monte Carlo Simulation being such an extreme workload I doubt anyone is ever going to notice Intel’s performance advantage in this application....
Only 200 Apple-1 computers were designed by Steve Wozniak and assembled and tested by Steve Jobs, his sister Patty Jobs, and Daniel Kottke in the Jobs’ Los Altos home. After finishing the machines in 1976, 175 were sold to a computer shop in Mountain View, California, and this is one of the 80 that still exist today. Apple has revealed an initial investment of $450 million to get its Emergency SOS via satellite feature up and running later this month. The money will come from Apple’s Advanced Manufacturing Fund, which launched with an initial pool of $1 billion to help boost manufacturing jobs in the US. Gorilla Glass maker Corning was among the first recipients, receiving a $200 million investment in mid-2017 to help with research and development, capital equipment needs and glass processing....

John Ozbay, head of privacy tech company Cryptee, told Vice he thinks Apple’s upcoming Lockdown Mode will be highly susceptible to device fingerprinting. This core design flaw could paint a target on users who engage the mode to avoid tracking methods like spyware. Lockdown Mode, which will come with iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura when they launch this fall, is Apple’s answer to spyware from developers like NSO Group and RCS Labs....
Like most of its previous releases, Bohemia Interactive is offering Arma 3 exclusively for PC, and the studio has no doubt been working tirelessly to ensure a smooth launch. As part of its development process, the company held lengthy alpha and beta phases that ran for more than six months starting back in March. Built with Real Virtuality 4, Arma 3 expands on its predecessors’ realistic military experience with features including an enhanced mission editor, DirectX 10 and 11 support, improved physics across the board, underwater environments, volumetric clouds, better lighting and a 20km view distance with photo-realistic terrain....
The Core i5-6500 scored 6.33pts in the Cinebench 11.5 multi-threaded test making it 65% faster than the Core i3-6100T tested in the MSI Cubi 2 Plus. Although not intended for gaming, the DeskMini should deliver a pretty decent experience in some games, as evidenced by its 3DMark Cloud Gate score of 7020pts - League of Legends and CSGO should work fine, for instance. For an integrated solution, the Asrock DeskMini also looked good in the 3DMark 06 test, scoring 11119fps....
Nonetheless, compared to our AMD Phenom II X2 560 machine, the Vision 3D was 48% more efficient and we found it to be faster in many tests. At the end of the day, a full load consumption level of just 64 watts is very impressive.
The X99E-ITX/ac is an amazing achievement by Asrock that redefines what is possible, though part of us felt the board was a bit pointless when it was announced. The purpose of the X99 platform is to push the envelope by offering maximum performance, an unprecedented level of features and huge amounts of system memory. To accomplish all that you need a huge motherboard which is why most X99 motherboards are built to the eATX specification....
The workload is an execution of approximately 300,000 iterations of Monte Carlo simulation using the Black-Scholes basic option pricing formula in Microsoft Excel 2010. In addition, the workload uses Excel lookup functions to compare the put price from the model with the historical market price for 50,000 rows to understand the convergence. The input file is a ~70 MB spreadsheet. Unfortunately, AMD processors never perform very well in Excel and we found that the AMD E-350 was 31% slower than the Atom 330, which largely contradicts what we have seen in the previous tests....
Here we have conducted our own WinRAR compression test using a 400MB program made up of over a hundred files and a single 700MB audio/video file. While the Core i5 750 and Phenom II X4 965 delivered a similar level of performance when handling the single 700MB file, the Core i5 was considerably slower when compressing the program. When testing with Adobe Photoshop CS4 we see that the 890GX and 785G chipsets deliver the same level of performance once again....
Now when I say less money, I don’t mean we’re suddenly talking about a $200 monitor. However the Asus ROG Strix XG35VQ does come in at $800, which is an enormous $500 difference. And we still get a lot of the same features: a 35-inch 3440 x 1440 VA panel with a 1800R curve, a 100Hz refresh rate, and FreeSync support. It doesn’t have the marginally higher 120Hz refresh of the X34P, nor does it have G-Sync, but otherwise we’re looking at a similar experience for gaming....
Based on a new super high-end ultrawide HDR-capable panel from AU Optronics, the specs on offer are impressive: 35-inch 3440 x 1440 curved VA panel running up to 200 Hz, significantly increasing the refresh rate capabilities of what we’ve seen from 1440p class ultrawides. On top of that, we’re getting proper HDR functionality through a 512-zone full array local dimming backlight, 1,000 nits of peak brightness, and 90% DCI-P3 coverage....
The first is the ability to “overclock” this monitor from 240 Hz to 280 Hz, another is ELMB-Sync, which allows you to use backlight strobing and adaptive sync at the same time. Those two combined with Asus’ promise of 1ms grey to grey response time, we’re set for very high levels of performance. Having already been impressed with how other new 1080p 240Hz IPS displays have performed – namely the MSI MAG251RX and the LG 27GN750 – it’ll be interesting to see how this Asus alternative fares....
In our action packed test of Crysis Warhead the Radeon HD 5870 had an average frame rate of 29fps at 2560x1600, which is topped only by the dual-GPU GeForce GTX 295 with 38fps. The Radeon HD 4870 and 4890 were again slower than Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 260 graphics card. The Radeon HD 5870 was 12% and 16% faster than the Radeon HD 4870 X2 GeForce GTX 285, respectively, but as much as 24% slower than Nvidia’s GTX 295....
