The GTX 950 averaged 35fps in Far Cry 4 but keep in mind that we had SMAA enabled. Again, the GTX 950 was 19% slower than the GTX 960 while also trailing the R7 370 and GTX 760 by a single frame which equated to a 3% loss. Hitman: Absolution is three years old now and while it can still be a demanding game for testing CPU performance we see that when using FXAA the GTX 950 had no trouble delivering highly playable performance....

The Nvidia GeForce Now RTX 3080 tier debuted in late 2021, priced at $100 for a semestral membership. With it, users can play games for up to eight hours straight at a maximum of 120FPS in 1440p resolution (1600p on Mac) or 60FPS at 4K with HDR enabled via Nvidia Shield TV. That’s a considerable improvement over the 1080p at 60 FPS of the Priority membership. Still, without a one-month option to try it, many would feel reluctant in signing themselves up for a six-month subscription, but that won’t be the case anymore....

Today our focus will be on the RTX 2070 Super Max-Q, but proper context was very important because you should expect to see new laptop models sporting a variety of all this hardware in the coming weeks and months. It’s taken Nvidia nearly a year to bring their RTX Super GPUs from the desktop to mobile form factors, however as we explained at the time of the announcement, the change is not limited to a frequency bump but there are some neat new features reserved for these new GPUs....

The RTX 3090 is similar to the Maxwell Titan X as it packs more VRAM and more cores than the next fastest GeForce GPU. In this case, it features 21% more CUDA cores than the RTX 3080 and more than twice as much VRAM with an insane 24GB of GDDR6X memory, and of course a titanic $1500 price tag. Nvidia was quick to point out that gamers shouldn’t expect something that’s going to compete strongly in terms of cost per frame with the RTX 3090....

The PCI Express card measures 167.64 (L) x 98.42 (W) x 22.15mm (H) and weighs just 289 grams. The RevoDrive Hybrid features 100GB of MLC NAND flash memory, two SandForce SF-2200 controllers, a proprietary OCZ controller and a Toshiba MK1059GS 2.5" HDD. OCZ has essentially created a 100GB version of the RevoDrive 3 and augmented it with a 1TB hard drive. This is evident when looking at the claimed read/write performance of 910MB/s and 810MB/s, which is achieved by placing the two SandForce SF-2200 chips in RAID0....

To get the latest and most advanced solid state drives you’ll have to pay a hefty price premium, and like it or not, your flashy new SSD could become obsolete in a matter of months. But that’s the early adopter’s tale, be it graphics cards, processors or memory upgrades. A mere six months ago you would have paid double for some DDR3 sticks than today. Likewise, solid state drives are moving rapidly, having already received an initial wave of price cuts and a revision that make them less prone to long-term slowdowns....

The sharpness of the F1’s display is acceptable, though it’s no different to any other budget device I’ve used. Text is visible and photos look okay, which is pretty much all you can ask for at this price point. As this is an IPS display, viewing angles are decent, but don’t expect it to compete with high-end displays or AMOLEDs as pretty much every LCD on smartphones these days uses IPS technology....

With two maxed out teams of AI bots, Overwatch is quite CPU intensive. That said, while the Core i7 processors were considerably faster than the Core i3 and FX-series processors, it’s important to keep in mind that we are testing at 1080p using a GTX 1080. Therefore, while the Core i3-6100 looks slow in comparison it still maintained over 70fps at all times and the same is true for the FX-series....

Multiple vulnerabilities could have let attackers remotely track and control police vehicles, ambulances, and consumer vehicles from various manufacturers, according to researcher Sam Curry’s latest report. The update follows a similar notice from November. The weak point for the emergency services rigs is the website for the company controlling the GPS and Telematics for over 15 million devices, most of them vehicles –Spireon Systems. The researchers described Spireon’s website as outdated and could log into it with an administrator account with some ingenuity....

Mobile devices constantly emit Bluetooth signals for tasks like connecting to wireless devices, finding lost items, or using COVID contact-tracing apps. A UC San Diego research paper outlines how those signals can identify individual devices. Manufacturing Bluetooth chips and combining them with Wi-Fi hardware marks them with unique physical imperfections, which can influence each device’s Bluetooth transmissions in ways the researchers identified with radio equipment costing under $200 and specialized software....

Going to the recently spotted Newegg listing of the Intel Core i9-12900KS will give you a message stating the site couldn’t find the item. However, thanks to the power of the Wayback Machine, we can still access a cached version of the page. According to the listing, Newegg would sell the Core i9-12900KS for $799, putting it $185 above the i9-12900K. Considering the slightly higher clocks and the new boost technology it features (Enhanced Thermal Velocity Boost), that’s a considerable price bump....

Anyway, we’re not here to feed into your growing GPU depression, and maybe, just maybe we can put a positive spin on this one. Not sure how, but we’ll work that out as we go… For this mega 50 game comparison and revisit we’ve got two reference points: one is the current-gen RTX 3060 which is currently selling for slightly less than $400, along with a previous-gen Radeon GPU that we also recently revisited, the Radeon 5700 XT....

According to Rivian’s safety recall, the potential issue affects all 2022 Rivian R1T, R1S, and electric delivery vehicle (EDV) units as well as EDVs manufactured between September 2021 and December 2022. The EV manufacturer could not confirm that vehicles produced during these periods had a properly torqued fastener between the vehicle’s front upper control arm and steering knuckle. The recall has also been posted on the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) website....

To get a fuller picture, it’s increasingly apparent that you need to factor in a card’s frame latency, which looks at how quickly each frame is delivered. Regardless of how many frames a graphics card produces on average in 60 seconds, if it can’t deliver them all at roughly the same speed, you might see more brief jittery points with one GPU over another – something we’ve witnessed but didn’t fully understand....

We recently updated our cost per frame CPU data and found that a well equipped Ryzen 5 5600 platform would cost $365, while a similarly equipped 7600 configuration was 53% more expensive at $560. Across the 10 games tested, the Zen 4 processor was 33% faster on average, which helped to improve its value, but even so it was still more costly per frame. Naturally, for those of you already on the AM4 platform using an older generation processor or if you have a good quality DDR4 kit you want to carry over, the 5600 is going to be a no brainer, as it presents as a significantly cheaper upgrade....

At today’s Unpacked event, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 4, its newest clamshell foldable phone. The company’s foldables have become very popular lately, and the only alternatives to the Flip are Motorola’s revived Razr series and the Huawei P50 Pocket. The Z Flip 4 features a foldable 6.7-inch 1,080 x 2,640 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support. Next to the cameras, there’s a second AMOLED screen that measures 1....

The camera features a zero-lag shutter and very quick autofocus, a burst shot mode of up to 20 frames, and a Best Shot mode that automatically chooses the best frame from a series of eight. There is also a built-in ~HDR mode to handle tricky exposures. Samsung’s camera interface has always been good, and it features customizable shortcuts for frequently accessed settings. The nod for the best camera interface still goes to the one found in HTC’s Sense 4 devices, since it is possible to shoot a picture or start recording a video without having to switch modes, but Samsung’s camera is very good in its own right....

Phone enthusiast Evan Blass recently shared an image on Twitter highlighting the rumored date. He also claimed the name of the event will be “Unfold Your World” which doesn’t leave a whole lot to the imagination. The date jives with previous Unpacked events. Samsung historically hosts its Galaxy events a month or so before Apple in order to get the jump on the latest iPhone refresh. August 10 fits this strategy perfectly as Apple typically likes to share news about its new handsets in early September before launching them a week or so later....

After this stellar first run, Samsung followed through with the SSD 830 Series, offering great value at $1.50 per gigabyte versus $2.22 per gig for an Intel SSD 510 of the same capacity. A year later the SSD 840 Pro brought fame and fortune to the lineup along a larger 512GB drive ($1.17 per GB). Then last year saw the arrival of 1TB SSD 850 Pro drives, and you can now buy a 2TB version for $0....

The 960 Pro was 8% faster than the 950 Pro for the CrystalDiskMark sequential read test with a throughput of 2522MB/s. That’s a massive 51% improvement over the Samsung SM951 and 64% improvement over the Intel SSD 750 Series. Looking at the sequential write performance we find that the 960 Pro series is 17% faster than the 950 Pro as it reached 1790MB/s. The random 512K read performance wasn’t greatly improved, the 960 Pro did come out on top though the margin was slim compared to the SM951 and 950 Pro models....
