In a Monday interview, crypto billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried said that he doesn’t see a future for Bitcoin as a payments network. Bankman-Fried is the founder and CEO of FTX, one of the most popular cryptocurrency exchanges in the world. The thirty-year-old billionaire criticized Bitcoin’s underlying proof-of-work system, used to verify transactions, for its high environmental costs and inefficiency. He argued that the network isn’t capable of handling millions of transactions per second....
AtlasOS is an “open source” modification of Windows 10, a redesign of the most popular PC operating system which, according to its creators, has been specifically “designed for gamers.” Atlas users can enjoy higher frame rates and lowered input delay & latency, according to developers. The OS requirements, however, are great for both people on low-end systems and high-end gaming machines. As presented on the project’s official site, the main features of AtlasOS include a reduced number of running processes to lower computing stress on the CPU, while lowering system latency at the same time; more storage space, as the OS ISO is pretty small compared to Windows official images; a focus on privacy because Windows telemetry has been disabled; open source transparency, so users and coders can check what kind of modifications AtlasOS actually brings to Windows 10....

DDR5 memory has become significantly cheaper since the beginning of the year. Computerbase found that prices in Germany for some kits dropped by over 20% in the past four weeks alone. On Tuesday, investigative news outlet The Markup revealed that several “major” tax filing services had shared private taxpayer information with Facebook. Some companies listed include TaxAct, TaxSlayer, and multibillion-dollar tax giants H&R Block and Intuit. Information shared with Meta includes relatively benign data like names and email addresses. More concerning is the personal financial details involved, including annual income, filing status, and refund amounts. The Markup even saw instances of college scholarship amounts for dependent children and health savings account activity revealed....
As with several previous releases, Far Cry 5 has been built using the Dunia Engine, a modified version of the CryEngine. In the past, Dunia has had issues with textures popping in and unfortunately I’ve already noticed quite a bit of this when playing with high-end GPUs from both AMD and Nvidia. So, that’s annoying and does detract from the experience at times, but overall the game is visually impressive and for an open world title it does appear quite well optimized....
Webb, a partnership between NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA), is the largest and most complex telescope ever launched into space. NASA shared images from the scope’s coldest instrument, the Mid-Infrared instrument (MIRI), in May that highlighted the instrument’s sharp focus. The upcoming images will be the first full-color examples and the first to demonstrate all of Webb’s science capabilities. Spectroscopic data will also accompany the images, we’re told....

Gears of War 4 is DX12-only, meaning the game has been built from the ground up to leverage this low-level API on both the PC and Xbox versions, and considering developer ‘The Coalition’ is a subsidiary of Microsoft, it should come as no surprise that they worked together on incorporating the technology, nor that Epic Games assisted in allowing Gears of War 4 to take full advantage of UE4’s DX12 support....
UK-based nDreams is developing the game, and Sony Pictures Virtual Reality is also attached to the project. The game doesn’t yet have a release date or ESRB rating, although Meta did say that every game we saw today would launch within the next year. Even the cinematics featured in the trailer aren’t representative of actual gameplay. Aside from the teaser and a brief description, there isn’t much substance on the game’s landing page as of writing....
The Brix’s cache performance is similar to the Pentium G2020’s – at least the L2 cache performance anyway – while its L1 cache performance was about on par with the AMD A10-5800K at only 103.3GB/s. The Brix’s system memory offers a bandwidth of 16.87GB/s, which is slightly more than the AMD FX-4350 and A10-6800K but at least 4GB/s slower than Intel’s desktop processors.
This time, the GTX 580 SOC was 9% faster than a standard unit at 2560x1600. Again, our custom overclock only provided a slight performance bump, rendering just a single extra frame per second.
Gigabyte’s GeForce GTX 580 SOC provided a 17% gain when running the extreme benchmark while our own custom overclock failed to deliver much in the way of extra performance.
We saw an impressive 17% performance advantage favoring Gigabyte’s product over the non-overclocked version running Dragon Age II at 2560x1600.
