Our first file copy test measures single large compressed file performance. Here the Crucial m4 128GB is the fastest SSD tested with a throughput of 215.1MB/s, making it only slightly slower than the larger 256GB model. That said do not expect the 64GB model to do as well as it was limited to just 164.8MB/s, making it almost 20% slower than the 128GB model. While we were not expecting much from the SSDNow V+200 120GB we were very disappointed with the SSD 840 120GB.
The program copy test proved too much for these low capacity SSDs, as none of them were able to provide more than 100MB/s. The OCZ Vertex 4 128GB came the closest with 94.5MB/s and yet it was still 55% slower than the 256GB model. The Crucial m4 128GB was even slower with 81.2MB/s, though it was just 29% slower than the 256GB model.
The OCZ Vertex 4 128GB is the fastest SSD on this test, followed closely by the Crucial m4 128GB and Samsung SSD 830 64GB. The new Samsung SSD 840 120GB was highly disappointing with a throughput of just 107.6MB/s.
