The new Piledriver processors failed to deliver much extra performance in our HandBrake test, as the FX-8350 and FX-6300 were just 1 to 2% faster than their predecessors. That said, on the bright side, the FX-8350 was 17% faster than the i5-3470 and just 6% slower than the i7-3770K.
When testing with the x264 HD Benchmark, we found the FX-8350 and FX-6300 to be 6% and 4% faster than their predecessors, while the new eight-core chip was 16% slower than the i5-3470.
Unfortunately, AMD finished our encoding tests on a rather poor note, as both Piledriver chips provided no real performance gain compared to their Bulldozer counterparts. Worse still, the FX-8350 was 23% slower than the i5-3470 and 31% slower than the i7-3770K.
