The 840 Pro provided strong sequential read performance in AS SSD Benchmark, maintaining its lead over the 830 with a throughput of 510.4MB/s. The 840 Pro’s sequential write bandwidth was impressive again, faring 29% better than the old 830 with a speed of 491.8MB/s. The 840 Pro provided the same strong performance as the 830 in AS SSD Benchmark’s 4K-64 thread test, reaching a throughput of 273.1MB/s. Although the 840 Pro fell behind the SandForce SSDs when measuring 4K-64 thread write performance, it matched the Vertex 4 and bested its predecessor by 82%....

The 840 Pro maxed out at 551MB/s when working with 128K data in Atto Disk Benchmark, 5MB/s faster than the 830, 49MB/s faster than the Intel SSD 520 Series and 52MB/s faster than the Vertex 4. However, where the 840 Pro really improved was with smaller data samples, as it beat the 830 drive by 33% in the 1K test and that gap remained wide until the file sizes reached 32K....

The 840 Pro provided a 13% performance improvement over the SSD 830 in our game installation test. Taking just 97 seconds, it was 15 seconds faster than the 830 and it topped the Vertex 4 by 2 seconds to become the quickest unit we’ve tested here. The virus scan test was completed in 43 seconds, which is on par with other high-end SSDs we’ve tested.

On the hardware front, the Galaxy S5 provides an arguably smaller upgrade than we’ve seen with past releases. The Super AMOLED display has seen a slight bump to 5.1-inches, and still packs the same 1080p resolution we’re used to. The Snapdragon 600 SoC of the Galaxy S4 is swapped out for the newer Snapdragon 801. A 16-megapixel camera is seen on the back, complete with 4K video recording. Undoubtedly the nicest part of the Galaxy Tab S2 is its slim, lightweight design. Holding the “world’s slimmest tablet” in your hands feels great, and the sub-400 gram weight reduces arm fatigue when holding the 9.7-inch model in one hand. The use of above average materials around the body, including solid metal and a soft-touch plastic, gives the device that premium touch that previous Samsung tablets have lacked. The switch from a 16:10 aspect ratio display in previous models to 4:3 in the Galaxy Tab S2 is welcome, as it improves the experience while browsing the web and using apps....

I really like the design of the Galaxy TabPro S. The body is sleek and made from solid, mostly premium materials. It’s slimmer and lighter than the Surface Pro 4, although both devices weigh a similar amount with the keyboards attached, and the overall footprint of the 12-inch tablet is smaller than the Dell XPS 13 I usually carry around with me. The AMOLED display that’s included with the TabPro is vibrant and its contrast ratio is incredible, and I generally liked the visual experience that this tablet provides, even if the resolution is lower than what you get with the Surface Pro....

Earlier this year, we covered Samsung’s newest and fastest NVMe solid-state drive, the 990 PRO. The 990 PRO boasted speeds of “up to 7,450 MB/s,” and reviews showed it to be one of the best PCIe 4.0 SSDs for consumers. The drive features Samsung’s 7th-generation “V-NAND” flash. However, the company doesn’t plan to use the 7th-gen chips for long. In August, Samsung began the production phase for its upcoming 8th-generation V-NAND....

We’ve been hearing about multiple display manufacturers’ plans to release new OLED monitors in the coming year. Samsung has decided to throw their hat into the mix with the announcement of their first gaming monitor featuring a QD-OLED display, set to release in Q4 2022. The Odyssey OLED G8 follows a recent trend of ultrawide QD-OLEDs as first seen on Alienware’s AW3423DW. Manufacturers believe consumers get the ‘best of both worlds’ with the additional screen real estate of an ultrawide and the perfect colors, contrast, and low response times of an OLED....

The 960 Pro 1TB managed to shave four seconds off the game installation time compared to the 950 Pro. This isn’t a huge improvement but then again, this might not be the best test to showcase this new SSD. The TrueImage 2015 backup test didn’t prove the 960 Pro to be much faster than the 950 Pro either, though it’s still the fastest SSD we’ve tested. When it came to our 38GB file archive extraction test, the 960 Pro was almost 30% faster than the 950 Pro, taking the completion time from 50 seconds to just 39 seconds....

Like Samsung’s 850 Pro, SanDisk’s flagship SSD is aimed at gamers, enthusiasts and professionals who demand the highest real-world performance, so it’s no surprise to see them trading blows on pricing. As of writing, the 256GB SSD 850 Pro beats the 240GB Extreme Pro at roughly 10 cents cheaper per gigabyte, the 480GB Extreme Pro and 512GB SSD 850 Pro both cost around 77 cent per gig while the 960GB Extreme Pro is cheaper than the 1TB SSD 850 Pro by around $100 or 7 cents a gig....
